As long as you're not using an eq or tone controls there's really no reason the XPA-1's (I assume you're running two) should be causing 1.6's to flap.
Also the musical content could also be a factor as well, overly pumped bass by the engineers can cause problems with any system, but even more so with Maggies.I've been running a pair of XPA-1's on my MG20s bass section going on 8 years now and I've never heard flapping (or any other artifact for that matter); and I've ran them BRUTALLY at times, enough to shake the walls.

Must have been either LFE or faulty panel section or both. I liked them for
Homr theater as well. Amazing sound details in the movies. The big problem is speaker placement due to it blocking the projrctor screen.
I've heard it with my MGIIIA's when playing New Age music with a steady stream of low bass. Never heard it after I replaced them with 3.6's.
