Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
73.4.255.141
I am spread too thin and can't be in the chat rooms like some of my colleagues. Regretfully, I am not able to respond to emails and phone calls as I ordinarily do. Business has increased since Covid 19, and we are getting far behind. Josh is a good friend and if posting an occasional email for me is as a problem for the Inmates, I have plenty of other things that are not getting done.
Follow Ups:

But if the message is worth sending then send it yourself and ignore the responses. Don't treat Josh like your bitch and make him take any flack!

Heh, well, I'm not the target since PG left, but it sure gets tedious.
I understand where Wendell is coming from, I should ignore the follow-up too, but I don't.
welcome to the internet?
The internet is, in general, a dubious technological masterwork. It is not really good for clear communication.
Let's put it this way. It is like a speaker with gross colorations that make trumpets sound like they are directly trying to anger you.
Unlike maggies, which, in my experience, are like listening to a clear bell on a sunny day in my room.
Let's at least TRY to get that much shared between us, good sir!

to type a couple of paragraphs here than to email or call someone else with the same content?
Whereas it doesn't take any more time to simply type the initial message, the resultant discussion can become time consuming. That Wendell might wish to insulate himself via a proxy is understandable.I'm well aware that my history here disqualifies me from calling for less acrimonious discussions, and I have no side in this one to argue. I can rationalize both sides and would need to know a great deal more about the specifics, in any case.
So, I'm not going to express an opinion on the main topic of discussion. Debate is healthy until it devolves into a heated argument. Years after the fact, I'm still bothered by the fiery war of words in which I engaged someone in this forum, regardless of how justified I thought it was at the time.
The foregoing is not directed at anyone, in particular. It's just so easy for discussions in forums such as this to get uglier than anyone intends (one word may strike someone wrong and off it goes) and I know all too well how regrettable that can be. I don't comment much these days, but I still visit, even though I don't always have planar speakers operating in my system (been swapping back and forth every few months - currently listening via the 3.7s).

My LRS'will get here probably late August, and I am OK with that. Serenity Now.

I loved that show and Jerry Stiller made my life a little healthier - laughter is great medicine. Music is great medicine, as well.
That puts your countdown around 90 days - the salivation begins soon (if it hasn't already) and before you know it, it'll be September. 90 days is how long I listen through each pair of mains I have, then I switch and it's like a whole new system for 90 days, then... I think I'll switch in the morning and then I can count three months with you. While the Maggies are out of the loop this time, I think I'll make a few little changes. For a while I had planned to sell them, but I just can't bring myself to do that.
I used to have a pair of MMGs - had lots of fun modifying them over the years and thoroughly enjoyed listening to music through them. I haven't heard the LRS, but I have no doubt that it's a terrific speaker - enjoy.
There's a bit of extra tension these days. No doubt, we're all a bit quicker to frustration than we'd like to be. Serenity Now!
That's a great message - thanks.
Off topic but perhaps a good thing, Wazoo what are your other speakers you put in rotation when swapping out the 3.7s? And what do you like about those speakers vs your 3.7s?
If you want we could start a different thread to discuss it, or keep here, or move to PM? I also have some speakers I swap out with my main rig via Magnepan 3.6s.
FYI, I heard the LRS a couple of times at AXPONA with Josh. I thought they were stunning in their clarity and imaging. I've heard Maggies in many other various settings and was not as impressed as I was with those. I keep wondering if perhaps their limited bass response in a space challenged room, with Wendell's room treatments were the part of the magic?
Equally amazing my Chicago audition of the 30.7 for Condo's, Maggies with impressive dynamics, deep bass with impact. Just incredible, with no negative trade offs that I could tell in the slightest.
the resultant discussion can become time consuming.
To the extent that Wendell does respond occasionally, going through a middle man takes MORE time than not. Unless of course we are really reading Josh's message, not his. You still must take the time to consider the message and respond. I'd much rather type a response than teach someone my intent. And hope for the best. Better in this case.
Debate is healthy until it devolves into a heated argument.
Some, however, have an ardent difficulty with an objective analysis of this approach. ;)
Oy. I can assure you that they are not my messages.
Sheesh.
Wendell doesn't understand the definition of what using amplified speakers in a musical venue is?
Good point, it does appear Wendell spends a fair amount time at least reading these post.
Can't really blame him for remaining behind the scenes, a lot of egos here and things didn't go too well the last time he appeared here.
The official excuse just makes no sense.
Take five minutes, leave your message and go back to business. Folks will respond as they do. In either case. Perhaps better communicating the company message without the need for angry profanity.
I've enjoyed hearing Magneplanars since 1974 and am a happy owner. Currently going through a major kitchen/family room remodeling project that will vastly expand the area where the HT lives. And soon will be purchasing a pair of MC1s or MMC2s for the rear channels. I am looking forward to having an all planar home theater system in a large space. :)
The profanity was mine, not his.
Wendell has made it abundantly clear why he doesn't comment here: the follow up would be too time consuming, as I well know.
IMO, he wastes too much time on this stuff as it is.
It seems like every time he makes a friendly post here, he gets his ass kicked.
I'm tired of it, even if he is not.
the follow up would be too time consuming, as I well know.
The "message from Wendell" should be a message from Wendell. It would take less of his time to post the couple of paragraphs than to communicate the message to you or anyone else via email or a phone conversation.
Follow up is a separate matter. You could continue to provide ghost responses as you (and he?) see fit.
My responses are my own and aren't made at Wendell's behest. He will sometimes email me about something he saw that bothered him, but I don't remember him ever asking me to respond -- if he wants to respond, he writes something himself and I identify it as coming from him; Steve Ford does the same for the Planar Circle and Wazoo used to do it here (forget who did it before him).
OTOH, if I say something that isn't correct, he'll usually email me, as he did when I said erroneously that Magnepan was paying for the AXPONA event.
you and he will figure out that it will take less of his time to type three paragraphs than to get you involved. :)
You're spot on regarding communication.
Over 40 years in print, advertising and new media has taught me that.
If I was copywriting, I would have said something like "Magnepan is proud to have been selected and now partnered with... yada yada... in a passionate endeavor to... yada yada." Or "Wendell is proud that Magnepan... yada yada... "
Maybe not perfect but these examples took me less than a minute. And the message is transparent.
Will be interesting to see what the magazine ads look like.
Cheers!

Posted by Wendell Diller:"Hi, this is Wendell Diller from Magnepan. I would like to thank all of our customers for your continued support - whether you are new to the family or have been loyal customers for decades. We know many of you exist.
My wife Galina and I have long shared the passion of live, unamplified music and find an opportunity to extend that love to others in areas where larger symphonies are not well served. Consequently, we are personally funding an effort that we think can achieve that goal with a new sound reinforcement technology that helps smaller ensembles take on the more impressive sonic capability of larger organizations.
Some find the results very convincing. If you share our vision, we would greatly appreciate your joining our support in this exciting venture. We believe the results well worth the effort.
At the same time, business at Magnepan has never been greater. I would like to apologize in advance that I am unable to respond to your questions as my primary focus must remain that in serving our customer demand.
Thanks again for your business!"
Leave the insulting horse $hit behind:
" allows small orchestras to emulate a larger string section in a manner that is sonically indistinguishable from an actual large string section. "
along with personal attacks on customers:
" Oh, fuck off, E-Stat "
At the expense of observing the obvious, such does not serve a good corporate message. Especially when Wendell's words and that of his lackey are intermingled without qualification.

I was the one who told you to fuck off, not Wendell.
Having read this post, it is not a sentiment I am inclined to revise.
I must have missed that post from Wendell. In fact I still can't find it. Regardless, thanks for pointing it out.
I can't keep up!
Cheers!
