Hi,
What amps or integrated would you buy for pair of 1.7i?
Right now I have a Rogue Sphinx V2. My maggies have not arrived yet.
Looking at other possibilities for Class A/AB. If amp only, what pre-amp would
you pair it with. The seperate pre amp/amp alao runs into rhe synergy of pairing
different brands together(?).
I know you need amps 3x or more cost of the Maggies for ultimate sound.
Maybe some day...
It would be nice if there was a list with user experiences and different price ranges
for amps used with the maggies.

May I suggest you contact Jim Clark at Jim Clark Stereo?

He sells tube amps that are out of your price range but he also has solid state power amps that he has collected and restored. He demos his amps with a pair of MGIIIa's so he will understand the power needs.
Jim is a really cool guy and will help you out if he can, even if its by finding an amp for you from another audiophile.
I'm currently driving my 1.7is with an Emotiva XPA-2 gen 2 which is no longer available but if I were to upgrade I would definitely give their XPA-DR2 Differential amp a try. You can even find dealers who sell their stuff now so you can audition in store. But even if you can't find one what have you got to lose? They still offer a money back guarantee. All of their stuff is the biggest bang for the buck in audio IMHO.

Hi,
Few year back I had the 1.6 and Emotive XPA-1's. That was a nice combo. Yes, the
Differentials look interesting. I just wanted to try a different flavor this time around.
It is a nice idea money back policy but you lose a lot these days on shipping.
I would look at a pair of subs instead of another amp. Doesn't have to be big, 13'inchers, I would look at a pair of 8'inchers personally.
I used a Parasound Hint with my 1.7's and they paired amazingly. The prior model integrated should be available used in your price range. I would try what I have first however.

I have had great results with my Odyssey Stratos amp. Very open and enough power to prevent the compression I have heard with lower current alternatives. I believe most maggies are current soaks and require enough to really get going properly. IE lack of clipping and transients. Never seemed to reach the limitations I had seen with other amps I tried with mine. Best of luck finding your amp...
+1 on the Odyssey Stratos. I drove my 1.7 with one before I purchased a new Bryston 4B3. Keeping my Stratos and sending it in for upgrades. I will use it for a second system. It doesn't break a sweat with the Maggies. Good Luck.
AGREE ; was about to post this myself - or mono blocks would cost about 2g
I use a Rogue Atlas Magnum (KT90 tubes) and am quite satisfied.

Thanks. I will take my time. The Atlas is high end though with amplifer tubes.
I'm not so sure with hypex modules.
and save your money for something better down the road. If you buy
something you don't want to live with for a long time, you will be
wasting you money. Don't do that.

What MikeK says resonates with me.
I own 1.7i's, and originally powered them with Pass Aleph 30.
Later, I switched to a heavy duty class A/B amp, because I found a local deal. Looking back, that was a mistake, because I ended up selling that amp. Buying and selling is a waste of time.
I have a Sanders Magtech now, and I do not plan on changing this combo, ever.
That is sound advice. Still nice to hear other's experiences. Better seems to be out of ramge money wise when it comes to audio. For amps it jumps in the thousands.
I hope the sphinx is satisfying enough then I can be done with it.
Listen to Mike K!
Nothing wrong with the Rogue.
Small, sideways moves end up wasting money and leave you unsatisfied. Make a big change that will satisfy you for the long run.
I will. What's big change? Hegel 360? Primaluna Dialogue Premium?
Well, I don't know the Hegel amp, but I have heard the PrimaLuna and it is a very good amp but maybe not enough power. You would have to go to the high power PrimaLuna integrated. Now that would be a big step up. Most people use solid state with Maggie's, and I am no expert on SS amps. Maybe others can chime in but I would think you would be looking at $5 or $6k new to make a big change.
...
Definitely used, can't afford new one. My system few years back was Emotiva XPA-1's
and 1.6.
Hello Taki888,
I think it depends on if you want to buy new or are also considering used gear. I have had the 1.7i in my system for only 4 weeks now and have a long way to go. The amp i am using is a rotel rb1090, which i bought second hand for around $900. The guy i bought it from had it serviced about six months before. Now i know rotel amps aren't very high end or sophisticated, but it offers adequate power. It does what it has to do and i am happy with it, for now.
