After some 20 years, the wife insisted I update the "man cave." Some needed repairs - a new roof and new door. This was followed by painting and replacing on old carpet with bamboo laminate. I was afraid the floor wouldd make the room too echo-reflective but in fact the sound is just a little more lively and improved. A rug is in the works and I am not allowed to put up any pictures just yet. I am ordering new shelves for the LP's from IKEA.
The bad news is the wife has not seen the completed room as she is remaining at the beach house for the summer. When she gets back the "man" in man cave is going away. It will just be a room I will be sharing. I plan to get a neon sign that flashes "Dear, could you turn it down a tad".

Best (or perhaps better described as "most expensive") components in my cave.

I have a bunch of Ekornes chairs and they are great for relaxing but not so great for serious listening, in my opinion. All of mine are high back leather covered chairs that tend to confuse imaging. My preferred listening chair is a Steelcase Leap fabric covered low back -- very comfortable for hours.
Best wishes,

Way to go!
I've made progress on my own listening room, installed a new screen and projector -- watched (part) of the first movie last night. I'll have to take some pics.
My room awaiting my 20s.
you will probably need a higher listening position. Will have to experiment but I would guess 5-6" taller than that low lying sofa.
Lovely room.
For anyone thinking of painting their music room a shade of gray or charcoal, but thinking the hi-tech gray might not go with a wood floor or tan carpet, take a look at Sherwin Williams "Mink". It is in the gray family, but contains a hint of brown, which warms up the charcoal color a little. I just did my room in the flat version of the color, and love it. Then I changed all the tacky gold door knobs and hinges, and the off-white light switch and duplex outlet wall switches, with aged bronze pieces. They look fantastic against the mink paint! I would post pics, but some sob stole my digital camera out of my car, and I haven't yet replaced it.
awesome.... I was thinking about going with bamboo engineered in my new room ... and ended up with carpeting..... have yet to try out the sound.... and the room is 17x30..... I think mine would have had a bit more echo.... as I do the 'clap' test and I think I am pretty good right now with the carpet... .But I have my current setup on hardwood - and as you say ... bass is a little better actually and there is a bit of liveliness I like.... It made me re-think carpet - and think in terms of wood - with added area rugs to suit.... Like they do in a recording studio.... makes sense.....
I, for one, think it looks 1000% better. The pink was just.....creepy. :)
Dave.
My 6 YO daughter would love the original, dark/hot pink in particular is her favorite color. Me... I prefer the new reno, by a pretty large margin. :)
I did my room the way I wanted, 100%, but looking back maybe a woman's input would have been as well. No, changed my mind, I'm good. haha
diggin' it!
Hell I'll take either one!
you should deal with naked bulb. :)

Maybe he's got a dimmer that's not noisy.

LOL...quite a bit of pink in the old room! Nice improvement!
I am glad someone pointed it out first. The original colors were more akin to a woman cave.
Rather enjoyed the Mae West aesthetic.
Mae West? Liberace.
