Click here for a list of models.
Broadly speaking, Jim Strickland's design can be broken into three groups:
1. Original Servo charge amp models: 3 panel model X and 4 panel Monitor 4
(I purchased the X in '77 and upgraded it to M4 in '79)
2. "Building block" dual transformer Magne-Kinetic Interface models. I say that because there were numerous variations of the number of panels and whether or not they were stacked vertically. For example, the 1,2,3 and 4 used as many panels in a horizontal array. Each of those had a stacked equivalent: 1+1,2+2,6, and 8, respectively. There was also a 1 with dynamic subwoofer as well.
3. The Symmetric Pair Electrically Curved TRAnsducer series.
While the earlier models tended to beam, this new series split a panel into two logical sections and essentially created a narrow "tweeter" section to improve imaging. There were myriad versions of the new series, although I think there never was an eight panel version.
One of the former engineers, Andy Szabo, continues to answer questions over at DIY Forum located here.
I've been using one model or another for forty years and use 1+1s in the HT system.
