Hi folks, I have a pair of Tympani 1Ds bought new in 1976. I have a small problem with the one of the wires that connect tweeter panel with the middle panel. They are located near the floor in between the two panels. One of the wires has detached from the internal connection. I assume it had a crimped connector that went into a female receptacle. When I twist the wire and push it into the small hole, it eventually makes contact and the speakers play fine. I am looking for a more stable way to connect it. Wendell at Magnapan suggested truing to fish the connector our of the tiny hole or attaching a new crimped end to the wire and inserting it into the back of the old connector. I will probably try the latter solution, fashioning an extension with a crimped end and inserting it in the hole then connecting it to the exposed wire.
I hope I have made the problem clear. I welcome any advice you care to offer.

Great question,
Hate 2 say it but if U bypass all those crummy 6 strand steel hook-up wires & replace w/better U'll B amazed at the overall sound improvement. A pain 2 do but WOW!
Wendell's ideas sound good to me. The connectors on the 1D's were always a bit flaky and scratchy when I had mine, so I think Satie's suggestion to solder them is a good one. It isn't as if you're going to be taking the panels apart . . .
If you can fish out the internal wire then you can just solder the two together, if not solder then get the crimp connectors crimped with pliers so that they hold firmly. You will need to widen the little hole and then sew it back afterwards. You should be able to find the crimp connector in the channel in the speaker panels with your fingers. .
Thanks Satie. I will try to widen the hole. Good idea. Since it is in the seam between the panels, I am not worried about making the hole bigger in the sock. I am going to try to insert a connecting wire with a crimped terminal to insert into the one in the hole, then solder the two ends together.
I'm thinking a tiny set of needle nose pliers, carefully retract the inner wire, then crimp them.
The hole that the wire goes into is only a tiny bit wider than the wire, perhaps 1/16th inch. Never saw a needle nose that small. I would have to insert a threaded probe to see if i could insert it into the cap that is in the contact and remove it and replace it on the end of the wire.
Failing that, I am considering inserting a wire with a narrow crimped end and connecting it to the exposed wire.
I'll take a photo this weekend and post it. Thanks for the feedback.
