I finally started on my total MG-III rebuild and it is not going well.
I built a fancy jig for the mid/bass wires incorporating the ideas of others and a few of my own. I had a simple lowering mechanism and could get the pegs about a 1/16 inch off the mylar. Instead of tensioners on the end I did a slotted hole so that the end boards could slide. The idea was that I could slowly release one wingnut on one side and get the wires down and then go to the other side. I sprayed the Super 77 let it tack and got the wires in place in the middle. Well like a dummy I released both sides at once and there were wires everywhere. What a maroon! I rolled the wire back up on the spool and cleaned the mylar again. The new glue cleans up way faster than the old stuff and that is the only good part.
Yesterday I relaced the wire on the jig but quickly noticed that I didn't have the old kinks where the wire looped around the pegs lined up with the new peg loops. The wire as definitely a little kinked in those locations. I tried to straighten them out and figured I'd give it a shot. One really neat feature was I was able to push on the dowel and it would flex just a bit and I could use my other hand to pop the wire off the peg and lay the wire down and that actually went pretty smooth. I didn't need the slotted hole deals at all. I used some washers here and there to hold everything in place. Today I had a few spots that needed a little more glue. I sprayed some 77 on an old board and used a cheap tiny brush to dab some glue in there. I let it tack and then used waxpaper and then those washers to hold it down. I let that set so now it's been about 24 hours since the initial glue up and I got dozens of spots lifting elsewhere. Some might be the little kinks but lots were just good straight wire. Tomorrow I will strip it a 3rd time. I'm going to toss that wire and now I have to get some more. Dang it.
Do you think I waited to long without applying the Miloxone? Or is the Super 77 just total crap like Peter Gunn says? I would like to use my jig but Weld Wood won't work with that. Is there an alternative spray adhesive? Or just burn the jig and frestyle it. And can I get more mid wire from somebody else because Maggie isn't returning my call either? Or is someone here in the Seattle area that does this?HELP!!!!!!!
Here's the jig.

I was able to use 77 spray adhesive without a problem. When I did my IIIa I just did the wires by hand, no jig.

Gluing the wires and mylar worked best although not perfect. A teeny artist brush with the 77 and washers did the trick on those problem areas. I freestyled the mid wire and that was real easy. Soldering aluminum was a PIA so I converted to the screw terminals that Maggie sent me. I did put in Cardas binding posts and new fangled expensive fuses. I did not use the new fuse holders I purchased because it was problematic. I did clean up the old ones. They were cruddy.
That speaker is done except for the sock and frame. I hooked it up to my vintage Pioneer SF- 850 3 way active crossover but I am bi-amping so no highs came through. I switched over to my Marchand XM9 2 way active crossover and holy moly what a sound. Everything works!!!!! Nice ribbon!!!!
I did get a hold of Gary at Maggie and new wire is on the way for the second speaker bass section. They were without a service person for a month but they are training someone now. Thanks everyone. Pics are coming.

Contact cement always requires both sides of whatever is to be joined to be glued. That's why it's called contact cement. Weld Wood is a contact cement. Super 77 is kinda like a contact cement because the instructions have an option to glue both sides of the materials as well as just the one side like we have been doing.
I just stripped the mylar again and the 77 comes off pretty easy. I trashed all the old wire except for a 2' piece. I fashioned it into a curly cue and laid it on the mylar and sprayed that small section with 77. I let it set to tack for a few minutes and then flipped the wire over and it instantly adhered to the mylar. Way better than before. Tomorrow I will lace my jig with new wire and spray the wire then spray the mylar and carefully adhere it just right, I hope, because once it touches there ain't much adjustment. Wish me luck.
I will have to strip the 77 off that one test section. That would be the 4th time for that.

You might want to consider hooking a 9v battery to the wire to energize the wire so it is held down by the magnets. Watch the temp.
I married the perfect woman. The downside is everything that goes wrong is my fault.
My BRIEF and Non-Audio experience w/ 3M77 tells me it is utter rubbish as 'adhesives' go.
It doesn't even stick to ITSELF very well. I tried sticking metalized mylar (space blanket) to a windoww blocker for my car out in Palm Springs where the outside temp can easily hit 110f = 43+c. Car interior? Almost too hot to breath.
Cover I made de-laminated a few months down the road.
I'd find some other kind of sticky stuff and give that a try.
Too much is never enough
I was in Palm Springs last August, wife won a raffle at her job for a weekend there.
Now I've been to a few cities in the Middle East (including the Sahara desert -in July), but nothing -repeat- nothing is hot as it is in Palms Springs!

Ya got THAT right, and 100%, at that.Un believable HEAT.
I was in INDIO, just down the road from PS attending to the court house. My ride managed to leave her headlamps ON so we were waiting for a Jump. During the wait? I MELTED the Soles OFF MY Nike Sneakers. Melted 'em right off. Laugh until you cry.
While doing some house sitting in La Quinta, also close to PS, I did a demo for my nephews. I took an ICECUBE outside and put it on a ManHole Cover. It simply evaporated, and left a tiny wet spot which disappeared in another 4 seconds. Very good demonstration of Sublimation.
My car, than a Nissan Maxima, was garage kept overnite. STILL, the steering wheel was just about too HOT to touch.
Driving around mid-day is like being cast in a Real Bad SciFi movie. No traffic. No Pedestrians.
and the obligatory piece of NewsPaper blowing down the middle of the street.
Creepy. The place has gotten HUMID, too, which you woudn't expect from a place getting so little rain. But given the number of Golf Courses and the fact that they water them 6x or 8x Daily, you can see where the humidity comes from.
They've just about ruined the place. Bob Hope has officially rolled over in his Grave.
My brother says Doha is hotter. And has awful wind, in season.
Too much is never enough

Indio! La Quinta! Palm Springs! In February of 2016 I moved from Palm Desert after living there since 2010. 115-120 degrees in July and August! People have to walk their dogs before the sun comes up, because after that the sidewalks and pavement burns the pads on their feet. Bill Johnson (ARC) had a winter home a few miles from me, in Indian Wells. I'm loving the dark, damp Northwest now.
I finished them and are listening to them now. Nice!!!!!!
