I figured I finally found a new use for my old Sound Anchor MMG stands in the attic, when I come up with whatever diffusors I go for. I can mount a stack of them on each stand and move them around the room, try in front of the traps, etc.
I do know if you want diffusors in front of bass traps, they should be made of foam. So I'm debating whether to buy GIK Gridfusors or pick up a $100 hot wire cutting table off of Amazon, and foam from the local big box store to diy. The more diffusors I "need" the more the later route makes more sense.
Along the same note, I noticed GIK recently came out with an option for their bass traps, with built-in diffusion.
Follow Ups:
I have 20.7’s four feet out from the their rear wall, 1’5” from side wall. I thought they sounded great, until I added GIK Tri-Traps. They improved the sound tremendously. The Tri-Traps are triangular and fit in the corners of the room, effectively “filling in” the corners. They may have a similar effect as the angled corners in HP’s listening room? I also noticed GIK’s scatter plate option, but I already have 8 Tri-Traps (two stacked each corner).
Try ray tracing. At higher frequencies, the sound behaves like light in a mirror -- angle of incidence = angle of reflectance. So you can see what's happening with the early reflections. The idea is to delay them by at least 10 ms (10' total path length).
If you aren't using it already, you might also want to consider QRD diffusors at the first reflection point towards the center of your front wall (the points at which you see the mids and tweeters in a mirror from your listening seat). It's pretty much the room treatment of choice for dipoles. In particular, yours are a bit close to the front wall. Diffusion, like reflecting facets, would have the effect of making the room acoustically larger.
Maybe at a later date GIK could sell the baffle plates as individual add-ons to existing panel traps. They would probably sell quite of few like that, to folks like you who would want to upgrade their product, and folks like me who have diy bass trap panels.
