Apparently one of the founders quit in disgust, lots of people were canned. Word is there's no security anymore and the site is currently infested with a trojan. Maybe that's why it was down? It's up now, I just checked.
After it lit up my AV program, I haven't been back! I don't know when I'll try shopping there again. But it'll be awhile.
You are correct. I was browsing several days ago. And the web page activated my Trend Micro AV program - blocked process. It didn't quarantine any files, tho.
Based on previous experience with these ad-based infections, I looked in the usual places where files were & found 2 in a sub-directories in Local Settings/Application Data/Sun/Java/Deployment and another one named 0.******.exe. Same file name structure as several fake AV infections used. And I deleted them all.
Since audiogon now set up for more ads, it is definitely far less secure and susceptible to malware from trojans like the fake antivirus scams.
exploiting java to deliver payloads to your PC is very common.
The audiogon owners royally f'd up. Unless they put in some security enhancements & be selective on whose ads they are hosting, it will be a lot less secure for malware.
Ouch! I for one am going to stay away. Hope the Asylum can make a success of its alternative.
Does the Asylum have a sale site ? if so what the link ?
Pretty hard to find, isn't it? They're in the process of upgrading it so it should be more accessible in the near future.
Thanks Josh, the new Audiogon site is a disaster! I used to buy and sell there, but it's not user friendly now.
