Look at what the Honda styling department has in store for you in 2026...

Looks like cars from the UFO series that were being driven around. They were futuristic looking.
...like it or not, designers are no longer limited by the requirements to accommodate a conventional ICE drivetrain. Batteries are generally being mounted in the undercarriage of the platform, and electric motors can be mounted virtually anywhere--fore, aft, both, or at each of the four corners. No need to incorporate large grills or ducts for cooling/ventilation.
Of course, the concept/trend with EVs is "the future", so the more futuristic/modern the look, the better. Eventually (like with every other design trend), the market/consumer will dictate the actual future.
I don't care for the looks of some of the new EVs, these new Honda/Sony models included, but they will appeal to some. Our two EVs (Benz EQS) look very much like their ICE S-class counterparts, and I like that.
The Ford Lightning and Mustang Mach-E look pretty-much like any other light duty truck and generic mid-size SUV, so not everyone is going "radical".
"And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP
Freedom makes us crazy sometimes.
... I say the Tesla is still about the best looking EV today.

Thanks largely to the i4, including my car's doppelganger the m50 Gran Coupe.

And this despite the Bucky Beaver front end.

But the interior is really jarring to someone like me who has driven German luxury/sports sedans for the past 30 years. The M50 is practically identical to my car on the inside as well as the outside. It looks chunky compared to the Tesla (and compared to my '18 and '22 Audi S5s as well), but still dynamic. Oh, and it really is too heavy.
And for sure, I'm used to screens.

Give me back my kidneys.

It's not just BMW either.
Reminds me of the post-second world war seller's market. The car makers took warmed over 1941 designs and plastered enormous gaping mouths on them. At the time it was called the "dollar grin."
Considering what's happened with new car prices, "dollar grin" is appropriate now, too.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

The ICE version, but I was never overly fond of the kidney grilles so I don't care.

It was a European delivery car, with their different size headlights, and I have been driving cars with kidneys since then.
Some kidneys were more elegant than the others, but they were all like siblings...
This abomination, on the other hand, is from the "I follow the crowd" category and it just doesn't fit.

Or are they?
Looks just like... ahem... a Porsche.

The Taycan (tie-kahn) doesn't look like a video game!

It seems quite cluttered with a long learning curve. The Tesla has one screen; I like the consolidation.

Sorry, don't want a single computer screen to replace everything.
Much nicer than the Tesla interior by far. Exterior I'd take the Tesla tho.
I do, at least.
2 doors and a hatch is perfect for me.
I've had seven, so guess I really like 'em.

She is madly in love with her Audi Sportback.
I prefer the coupes.

But please, not a hatchfront !
But there are plenty of small transverse engine cars with short hoods. No need for ugly on this scale!
Here's the original vision of my S2000 back in 1997. Lots of changes with what I drive today especially with interior.

The style originated in India's container bin, used in 1990.

Limited production toy with fewer than 30k sold to date.
Being so ugly and instantly recognizable they seem to be everywhere.

Here is one just announced by Chrysler. Just right for the Jetsons

with plenty of glass for visibility. The doors, however, will not make production.
The production S2000 looked much better than the prototype in every way IMO. In all honesty, probably the nicest small sports car ever made (to my eyes).
Evokes the look of a childhood favorite, the Lotus Elan. Along with another favorite of the time, Emma Peel. ;)

The SUV is not bad looking to my eyes, they sedan is a bit odd. If people will buy them, and they probably will, all good.
Most new cars, I can't figure out what the hell the stylists had in mind. Enormous "dollar grin" grilles, strakes and character lines that don't match, weird reverse-slant quarter windows, squared off wheel openings, and acres of black plastic cladding that'll look like shit in five years.
Fugly, for the most part.
The EV Honda is producing via its joint venture with Sony isn't bad looking if kind of generic.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
For the most basic versions. Luxurious !

But there are no new cars for sale right now that I'd plunk down my hard earned Social Security payments for.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
there isn't slave child labor involved in the process as you find with Chinese models. Much less any sense of environmental or labor safety concern.
