Jobless claims fell sharply to a pandemic low of 199,000 last week, below pre-pandemic levels as employers curbed layoffs amid a tightening labor market.

recovery. How quickly forget the guys who brought it all crashing down in '08...

not possible, fake news, only one man can fix things, I mean REALLY 'fix' them
even when they're not broken, break them and put the fix in
rinse & repeat
This is because of the policies set forth by djt set the stage for this good news, of course. Elementary.

Haha. Some here are so curmudgeonly that they've even forgotten that tried and true comeback!
But then the golden days of 2018 might be more awkward to exemplify.
Well in reality it is not just because of policies set forth by djt but the anticipation that the republicans will retake the House and Senate and reinstate fiscal responsibility and respect for Constitutional law and democracy.

Genius!
Nah, I'm a breast and thigh man myself.

well played Tweaker!
Haha, but you do realize that a wingman is a guy friend who hangs out with another guy friend at a bar while they both try to get phone numbers off the ones with breasts and thighs? : )
The Biden utopia is just around the next corner!

That would bankrupt our auto industry and pretty much end the USMCA trade agreement. But before you start comparing you need to be aware that the labour participation rate in Canada is nearly 5% higher than the U.S. at 66.5%.
Just ask yourself, are there any US-made-by-union-label EVs? I can't think of one.
The Bolt is assembled here but that's turned into a major clusterfuck. Who knows if GM will ever sell another one? The EV F150 isn't in production yet, it's supposed to be built at the Rouge. But, according to Wikipedia, even the Mustang Mach-E is only built in China and Mexico.
That's pretty slim pickins right there. The best EVs are either built elsewhere or built by non-union labor. Roll in the chip shortage/magnesium shortage/supply line issues, maybe dozens of people will be able to take advantage of the tax credit.
From where I sit, that EV tax credit is a big nothingburger.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
But once again it's Biden's protectionist posture that sticks in my craw. And I do realize that my closer ideological friends like Bernie and AOC would screw us over in a heartbeat.
Yeah, it was Biden's idea but Congress has to make it happen and that's far from certain.
Second of all, it's meaningless feel-good "we're doing something about global warming" optics.
That's all it is. Optics. Like 99% of the garbage that comes from our national government.
FWIW, I don't think there should be ANY EV credits. Why make it easier for affluent people to buy expensive cars?
Or, if we have to have the $12,500 credit, limit it to households earning $50K/year or less, make it fully deductible so that the buyer gets the full amount of the credit regardless of tax liability, and apply it to all EVs.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?

Much of Canada already has rebates for EV's.
U.S. and union made.
Canadians would balk at buying foreign made products, too, especially such a major sector?
Have you forgotten that we contributed $3.3 billion (plus a line of credit to Ford) to the (Obama) bail out? I don't expect better from you, but I do from Biden.
Canada needed to help save American car companies just as we did. Anyway, I basically agree that our 2 countries (and Mexico too) should be working in concert, not against each other.

Around the *next* corner?
Observe what people do, not what they say. : )
Absolute rate, no.
According to article it sits at 4.6%. In 2018, however, it was 3.8%.
: )
I'd delete my good news topic if I could, now that you've given us your dose of grim reality.
The BLS data puts today in perspective.

between counts and percentages.
I find the latter a truer indicator of trends.
A bit of a snarky cop-out there. : )
Why do you think the U3 number is higher today than in 2018?
a pandemic tends to impact those stats ... well, dominate actually
there's a definite ripple effect that's not been measured in a modern economy before
with regards,
to describe different aspects of sets of numbers.
Uh yeah I get simple math concepts.
But what do you believe affected the U3 numbers today vs 2018?
U-6 October 2018 was 7%, October 2021 7.7%.
.
must be a different US Jim ... lol
"The unemployment rate ticked down to 4.6% in October from 4.8% in September, and the labor force participation rate was stable at 61.6% in October. Hourly earnings rose 0.4% month-on-month in October (September: +0.6% mom), while annual wage growth accelerated to 4.9% from 4.6%"
no seriously, I believe you mistakenly picked up on a State unemployment figure
with regards,
https://ycharts.com/indicators/us_u_6_unemployment_rate_unadjusted
I now suspect you of being borderline innumerate.
here's a link to the chart at BLS for civilian US unemployment from the article [which I verified] and had recently read, clearly showing 4.6%
that's why I disagreed ... politely I thought but maybe you didn't take it that way?
I didn't notice your ref. to the U6 figures and you had not provided a link in the post I replied to, my apologies for any confusion
and my thanks for the smug reply and insult, I did learn something today
'good one'!
; )
I get too excited over what I consider to be misleading government communication, and communication that the media lack the numeracy to correct. I shouldn't have taken it out on you. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
he doesn't understand the number in the workforce is not a constant.
I'm not sure what 'seems that' to you but 'it' isn't 'that'
