Can't be updated to either of the most recent versions of OSX.
It's got the resources to run them, Apple simply won't allow it.
For every problem technology solves, it creates a new problem.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?

why is that a bad thing? in the windoze camp how many still run XP? scads!
if your machine has the resources to do virtualization you can still run updated applications, only slower; still a choice of time vs. $$ I suppose
designed obsolescence didn't quite pan out in hardware so it's now coded?
I guess
because it can't be updated. Can't run Apple Music, can't even run the version of iTunes Apple thoughtfully kept around for those of us with old non-Internet-capable iPods.
Again, there's nothing wrong with the hardware. If anything, it's got more power than it needs to run OS Catalina and OS Big Sur. Apple just won't allow it.

seems like a great feature to me. :)
But I had some good stuff in the iTunes library and couldn't access it without updating the OS.
The build was 2011, but it had plenty of RAM and processing power. More than the Mac Mini I'm using now, but the Mini is a 2014 build and can (and has been) updated to OS Catalina.
The better machine couldn't be updated only because it was old and Apple wanted me to buy a new machine. That's it.

One of the many compelling reasons to use industry standards like flac for music storage.
My digital library has always been available to a range of players in both the audio and video environments.
not even in / with Parallels?
or ... check this workaround for a manual installation
" For every problem technology solves, it creates a new problem."
Ain't that the truth?
Almost makes me wanna cut the soles off my shoes, sit in a tree, and learn to play the flute.
More science!
No phone, no Internet, no TV.
