Last time I looked Aleppo was a city in Syria.
Follow Ups:
I was recently introduced to Aleppo pepper.
If you've a taste for hot stuff, Aleppo pepper is excellent. Just a touch hotter than jalapeno, but with a much earthier flavor. Really good on eggs. Actually, it's really good on anything that needs a bit of heat.
There is not a great choice of chilis around here.
It's either those mild Jalapeno types, Thai Bird's Eye or Scotch Bonnets.
Chilis are EASY to grow.
A couple plants each of 3 or 4 types will keep you and several of your friends 'cooking' all season.
Too much is never enough
The Aleppo peppers are partially dried, then stemmed and seeded. It's then ground to a tiny flake. Available off the shelf. I get mine mail order, although it should be easy to find at a local market that specializes in middle-eastern cuisines.
