I ran Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on mine. But I was a 4-season driver. Still and all? Rain driving was a religious experience.
Mine came with Pole Position S-02 from Bridgestone......The same size as the same year Porsche Boxster. BUT a different 'run' of the tire......Same name / branding but DIFFERENT.
Wifes Mazdz came with W- or Z- Rated Yokohamas. Expensive to own. A decent tire but I think you can beat 'em for the $$$.
Get RID of 10 year old tires on that high-performance machine. And by all means? Get a complete set of 4. Mine ran about 2 rears per front, so you always have THAT to look forward to.
Is your model of the S-2000 17" or 16" ?? I think the break yhear was '04.....?
And I would ONLY buy a Tier 1 Tire. That limits you to about 6 or 8 name brands and NOTHING from China, if possible.
I'm thinking Pole Position S-04 if you have a 17" wheel......A very good tire.
Be careful! Last set of Michelin I bought (a touring / passanger car tire) came with 8 1/2 32s of tread, not the traditional 10/32 or 11/32
Too much is never enough
Follow Ups:
Better all weather performance than the original S02s.
Been running multiple sets for many years.
I have an AP1 and run 30/32 to minimize need to cross steer.
YES, I noted my S-2000 WAS VERY sensitive to tire pressure.....though I never varied from what the label in the door jam said.
A slow leak from a nail? You could identify the tire just from how it handled.....worse......
That being said? I NEVER have had so many flats. Cost me a BUNDLE replacing tires which had a big metal scrow right AT THE EDGE. And more. PUlled out of drive one day, heard a POP and that was another tire. Neighbor had a fridge delivered a couple days before and I found one of the palled hold-down screws........
Too much is never enough
I've fine tuned handling using tire pressure for decades.
With the Ridgeline, I take the opposite approach and carry two lbs more in the fronts to minimize understeer.
I did Extensive Pressure Tests in my '73 Super Beetle.
Sticker called for something like a ridiculous 17 / 24 for the origianl Bias ply tires.
I put 165-15s on it and started 'upping' pressure while maintaining the F/R difference.
When I went to 185-70 15s on Porsche takeoff rims? I ended at about 25-32 which gave great handling AND a decent ride.
Experimenting with the S-2000 involved speeds I was NOT comfortable with on public streets.
Too much is never enough
I read your post and measured. I measured a tad over 10/32 in. on mine about 3 weeks and 1400 miles old. Thanks for the heads up.
Gsquared
Thanks, pictureguy. Mine is a 2005, so it's after the '04 engineering changes. I wanted the stroked engine, and 8K RPM is adequate for a redline, I'd say.
FWIW, I drive the car in a spirited fashion (who wouldn't?) but rarely really push it, and never close to its limits. As far as I'm concerned, the car's abilities exceed my own, or maybe I just don't feel the need for the adrenaline rush anymore. The S2K is notorious for wearing out rear tires, but I only drive the car about 4K miles a year or less, so they'll still last a while. It's definitely a garage queen, but I don't have much in the way of toys these days - just the car and my stereo, albeit both are admittedly expensive toys.
I never buy anything from China if I can possibly avoid it...rather like selling arrows to the Indians, I'd say.
I'll look into the Bridgestones.
They made changes EVERY YEAR. Included were 'tweaks' to suspension settings.Mine was a LITTLE tail happy. I think at the very limit, It would 'swap ends'....A place I never went.
Though once coming down off of Palomar Mountain, going thru the 'whoop de dooos'.....I was able to
substantially unload the suspension. Like flying....
Link to PROTOTYPE at 'The Ring'......
Mine was a daily driver and sold with over 50,000 on the clock...
Too much is never enough

It's obviously not a practical car for a daily driver...much better suited to being a garage queen.
I've seen that video before. Quite a pilot.
