Out on the Great Allegheny Passage today, stunningly beautiful Western PA spring morning. Got 31 miles in, stopped to take some pics.
This is a typical water fall:
There are dozens of these coming down into the river gorge. Last year, by the time I got my bike sorted, they were all dried up.
Some strange rock formations:
Maybe the wind caused this? I rode into a pretty good headwind on the return leg.
Here's the one of the many old mines, now in ruins. This one is Banning Mine No. 1:
That's the Ghostwagen in the foreground, natcherly.
Finally, one of the beautiful streams that feed the Youghiogheny River:
Name of the creek ("crick" in the local vernacular) is Slush Run.
Almost got a pic of two trail kitties but they ran when I stopped the bike. Had to wait for geese to cross the trail in one spot.
Can't say enough great things about the Brooks B17 saddle. Mine's fully broken in and it's good for all day.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
Follow Ups:
Did a nervous mile gently downhill on a fire road adjusting to the feel of my new bike and gaining confidence now that the controls are dialed in. The stock tires look grippier than they proved to be on the switchbacks. Will be changing the front tire right away for a Conti foldable Trail King as I had on my last capable bike 2 years ago.
The pedal back up didn't seem as gentle a slope as it did going down.
After 6 months on the couch, Baby Steps.

Conti has a gravel tire that looks really good, unfortunately difficult to obtain in 26-inch diameter. I got Panaracer Gravelkings instead, they're great tires but they're expensive.
Not what you're looking for though. Gravelkings are made for rails to trails and the occasional single track. The Trail Kings give you more of what you're looking for.
I wasn't "on the couch" for six months but I'm still working to get back to where I was in December.

3 months waiting for surgery, 3 more from a slower than usual recovery, but now fully recovered.

BTW, my sister and I went on a 12-mile hike last Friday. Section of the Montour Trail that I normally bike without breaking a sweat.
My right hip was complaining pretty loudly on the way back. I didn't let her know about it though.

for their extremely small stature.
#2 is a Brontosaurus Femur.
Bronto? I was shooting for velociraptor.
