The all-new 10-episode installment once again will be executive-produced by creator Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning in their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The event series will air during the 2017-2018 season.
In 2016, THE X-FILES drew an average Multi-Platform audience of nearly 16 million viewers and was last season's No. 2 broadcast drama. It also was the season's most talked-about event series on Twitter.
THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully and Mulder, as they investigate unexplained cases - "X-Files" - for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.
Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions, THE X-FILES is created and executive-produced by Chris Carter.
Follow Ups:
...last year was not very good, but I'll give it another try when it comes back.
Scully's facework doesn't look too good and the writing and production values were weak.
I've probably seen most all of the old episodes - my 27 year old daughter used to watch them with me. From the opening scene, she can tell me the whole episode.
I'd rather watch the reruns, particularly those with a sense of humor.
Now I prefer something like Stranger Things with a second season starting in October.
Last year's attempt was so so but I had to watch it! I agree that the old episodes are best and especially the ones with a wacky humorous twist. One of my favorites was about a suburban community with a Home Owner's Association monster that would attack those who weren't in compliance.
...I thought it was a little weak but the best part was the banter between Mulder and Scully, supposedly a married couple.
I think my favorite is when they go to the small town full of circus freaks.
