Patricia has just been reading 'The March of Folly' by Barbra Tuchman, which I re-read a few months ago. And, 'The Americans - the colonial experience' by Daniel J Boorstien, Harvard, Oxford and Yale.
I've been dipping in to the latter book myself.
How you got to here, and you all, are in our thoughts!
So, a happy and long-view Independence Day to all of you!
Warmest

I loved that book. Tuchman was one of the first authors to stir up my love of WWI history, as a teenager. "The Guns of August" is essential reading. That, and the Bruce Catton Civil War trilogy (with "A Terrible, Swift Sword") were life-changers for me.
to all in the U.S.A. I think Scotland may be the next to join you, but not for 3 or 4 years yet.
