We'll just view the solar eclipse from our backyard. According to the map you posted we won't experience a total eclipse but about 95% from our location in Colorado.
Abe, Buddy, Pal,
A 95 percent partial eclipse is still a partial eclipse.
A total eclipse is a whole 'nuther deal. Put some gas in the car and drive to the centerline.
Thank me later.
:)
From my location a drive to Casper WY is about 4.5 hours. Would Casper be close enough to be considered one of the center lines? I think there's a cowboy hall of fame museum there if the eclipse is a bust. ;-)
Hmm, now you got me thinking. Drive up the morning of, stay one night, then drive home.
Weather and traffic.
I'm just sayin', keep your options open.
Weather is the main reason why hotels are booked up. Especially for university folks, but also for the average eclipsophile, they make three or four reservations in different places, just in case.
I'd be careful about Missouri, Illinois and points eastward. August weather can go either way.
Major highways are likely to be jam-packed. Plan on side roads, and give yourself plenty of extra time.
:)
St Joseph, MO, AKA St Joe, is the local totalty hot spot for the eclipse and has been promoting their location since last year. Hotel rooms in that area are scarce. My location here in Leavenworth, KS, about 25 miles as the crow flies from St Joe, should be a lot more peaceful and more reasonably priced.
We are going about 30 miles north to the Corvallis Oregon area. I would love to be on top Mary's Peak, but I imagine it will be packed with viewers. I witnessed one back in the late 1970's. Birds stopped chirping as this huge shadow came across the landscape.
We're a little north of the totality zone in Clackamas, but it seems we'll get something like 99%. I'm afraid to get on the road with no reservations at all the choice spots.
I thought you lived in S. Cal Pablo? You are smart about no reservations. I guess people have been grabbing them up for over a year. From my past experience, I recommend you get to a high advantage point.
Second home.
We'll be paying a visit!
We will be in Greenville, SC for the big event. Should be entertaining.
Happy listening,
Jim

Thanks for that!!
I have several images, but that one is particularly good. :)
