I missed this time of the year when I was living around the 62nd Parallel North, which the same parallel as where Alaska is to the west.
I remember we used to celebrate this day by starting up a huge bonfire in the afternoon and it'll basically burn until the next day to celebrate the longest day of the year.
This is what Yellowknife Bay looks like in late April. As you can you see the ice is just beginning to melt and it will take up to the last week of May to complete the meltdown. Also by this time of year, some of the natives are already greasing up their canoe for the upcoming fishing season. Fishing for fish such as Great Northern Pike, Arctic Char, Walleye, Arctic Grayling just to name a few that can be had to enjoy cooking in the bonfire.
