I think inmate E-Stat (who hangs out in the Computer Audio forum) has a Boxster. I wouldn't mind having a Cayman S or the new Mecan S cross-over. I'm not a Porsche guy so I'm a bit unfamiliar with how to option one, and the options list tends to scare me away. Too many cool options that easily adds +30% to +%50 to the base price!Did you have the standard Boxster or Boxster S?
My 2008 135i with Dinan Stage 2 tune & performance exhaust. 6 speed manual of course!
Sold it a few years ago, itching for something fun again.
HP and Torque - at the rear wheels. Stock before, then after the Dinan Stage 2.

3.0L engine to begin with, but the Dinan Stage 2 tweak adds another 38 horses in the stable, of which will the make the car run like a scalded dog.
My 2008 Infiniti G35X all-wheel drive with 3.5L unmolested engine put out around 306 horses, which I thought would be more than enough power to pull me out from the snowbanks. I was right in a way as long as I have the winter tires on.
However, my oldest son just bought a used 2015 Cadillac ATS with a 3.6L that put out 321 horses, which is loaded to the hilt including a steering wheel heater. Which is very handy when driving in a -40 winter weather. I'm jealous.

The figures in the dyno chart are "at the wheels" so engine bhp is actually much higher. Yes, it was crazy quick but rode a little choppy with the stiff suspension and short wheelbase. ;-)
Fun car, but not meant for cruising on long road trips.
Any Dual Clutch option?
Too much is never enough
Yes, DCT was available in the 135i.
Mine was an earlier model with the true twin-turbo N54 engine that put out more power than the BMW claimed 300hp 300lb-ft. Later models with the N55 engine used a single twin-scroll turbo and felt more tame.
The BMW 8 speed 'sport' automatic isn't bad at all. It can be had as part of the "M sport" package in some vehicles. In sport or sport+ mode it offers quick and deliberate shifts that you can feel in your seat back as you accelerate.
The automatic and the DCT can shift quicker with lower 0-60 times than the 6 speed manual.... but the manual is a lot of fun, except in heavy stop n go traffic.
I get it about the manual being 'more fun'.
My Honda S-2000 came ONLY with such a box and perfectly geared, at that. Spacing was such that you could hold the car between torque and HP peaks when driving aggressively.
But I really love the DCT these days. Fine idea which seems to have been done right. ZF, the 8 speed maker for quite a number of manufacturers (incl BMW) had some problems years ago, which is nothing to be surprised about.

Standard "base" model. I bought all three of mine off the dealers' floor, so wasn't much tempted by the option list. What you really need to consider are the costs of servicing a Porsche, if you choose to let the dealer do it. I still remember the one-year service "package" which included new wiper blades at a mere $126 NOT including the labor to attach them.
On the plus side, assuming you join the club (PCA), whose $46 annual dues gets you a 10-15% discount on service, all kinds of amenities and fun stuff, plus 3 professional magazines extolling the breed (or cult, if you're a naysayer). I don't regret my Porsche ownership one bit.
Which does pretty well with launch control and 1G lateral cornering. Rides well and has great range, too. :)
Yearly maintenance is kinda pricey.
I would love to try a Cayman S someday, maybe a certified pre-owned, but I'm not sure what options are considered "must have" vs over priced and frivolous.I'm very familiar with BMW option packages and a la carte items but pretty ignorant when it comes to Porsche. What I would absolutely hate is to buy a vehicle (new or used) only to learn later that I'm missing a very worthwhile and much needed option that I should have known about. It's happened to me before. ;-)

I had a Porsche 944 back in the day. Thought I had a hole in the exhaust, and asked the deal what a new muffler would run me. $800 (just the part). When I asked what the hell it was made of, he replied "Unobtainium". With a smile!
Fortunately all that had happened was that an exhaust sensor tube had come loose, and all we had to do was re-attach it.
I had the car twelve years, and other than scheduled maintenance items, the only "part" I had to replace was a windshield wiper motor.

I loved the look of the 944 in my younger years but couldn't afford one so I bought a VW GTi. ;-)
The 944 made the 924 look 'homely'.
Sorry, to hear that. At least you had many years of pleasure from those cars!
8^)
Yes, I did.
