Continuing on a Trial and Error basis is a recipe for disaster.
Humanity must take charge of its future in the sense that if we THINK or IMAGINE it, we can make it happen.
Too much is never enough
Follow Ups:
Trouble is that Errors become more expensive to the point of fatality.
Do we need to test the idea of nuclear war? Do we need to test the idea of runing out of oil?
What will be said of the GMO (genetically modified organism school of thought) when a single bug evolves to EAT IT ALL?
Corn, when literally Dozens of varieties were grown was nearly immune. Once the Patent Attorneys get thru with being farmers, we'll be growing one kind and if you DON'T you're still wrong since the corn from the other field impregnates YOUR corn and you have it anyway. But what happens when 3/4 of all corn in the USA is ONE type and some bug decides it's delicious? The last nutty idea has already been litigated in favor of Monsanto or whoever.
Besides, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize the concept of 'carrying capacity' and that all dreaming and 'wanting' aside, it IS essentially a math problem. The tough to near-impossible part is the DOING.
Too much is never enough
