You're lucky that your roses are still hanging in there. Mine are still trying to wake up from a long winter hibernation. If it's any consolation my rhubarbs and peonies are growing like weeds.

Sorry, lost me cool there.
Have not had enough energy to be as diligent a gardener, so the weeds have gotten away a bit.
Managed to hit them hard on Thursday. Thursday AM did a vigorous vacuuming up of the Canada Maple's leaves and some of the Birch leaves, most of which are still on their respective trees. 5 large black garbage bags of mulched up leaves, dampened, sealed up and left to rot down.
Then I was able to do a couple hours weed spraying with a - glyphosate & water - weed-killer solution. Spot spraying and using a sheet of cardboard to protect wanted plants.
Will need to repeat that and do a large area with a wide-area T-head off a RED watering can. Within 2-3 weeks I should have things back under control.
No, I don't hand-weed or use a fork, as that disturbs the mulch and soil, thus opening up more opportunities for the weeds.
It's a compromise.

Speaking of which, I was busy spraying the dandelions all day to stop them from spreading and taking over my lawns. I hate using chemicals so I created my own concoction, that is basically a mixture of 100% alcohol and an apple cider vinegar. This potion is so potent that upon contact will make the dandelion leaves limp. And in a couple of hours, the leaves will turn brown and then the whole dandelion plant runs out of energy and basically has nowhere to go but dies.In so far, this method of killing dandelions has been very effective for me and not only that it's cheap to make it's very environmentally friendly as well.

The weed-killer is much more effective in Autumn and Winter, and I have to spray between rainy days.I avoid using weed-killer when it's practical to do so. But when it is more practical I will use it.
I am very careful, too, long rubber boots, mask, goggles, which are easier to were in cold times.
With sprays for plants I tend to use pyrethrum and white oil solutions rather than insecticides. Even a hose with a fine pressure nozzle to knock the beasties off, and onto the ground, for crushing by size 10 boot.
