That said, I do have reinforced door jambs and an alarm system. I hope I never to have to deal with a life threatening situation in the first place, by doing what is possible to prevent it.

As do I, but I'd much rather win via deterrence instead of unnecessary deadly force. :)
Which is why I do everything I can to keep them out of my house in the first place.
