US beef producers necessarily must have downsized production tremendously in the aftermath of the mad cow thing.
It will take a few seasons to bump production back up to cater for the new export market.
In the meantime, don't eat the Chinese chickens!

I think if the price increase is temporary that'll be ok. I have much darker dystopian visions of being left to eat insects while the rich Chinese people over there laugh at the stupid USA over filet mignon breakfast sitting on golden chairs. The Chinese people are probably the smartest people I've ever met.
on the + side I am 0.2 percent Chinese region from my DNA test. I think it was because Mongolia conquered Europe awhile back.

Beef prices in the US are up because of feed prices and drought conditions in several parts of the US over the last decade or more. Some idiot thought it was a good idea to turn our corn production into gasohol. Thus driving up feed prices for cattle producers. Opening a new market in China will only add to the price problem here. Now we're swimming in domestically produced oil, but we still subsidize the hell out of corn production for gasohol. Go figure.
.
Looks like a bit less than a 10% decline from 2003 highs to lows in the next cupla years then recovers and subsequently falls 10%-ish, probably reflecting consumers desire to eat less red meat and higher prices.

It's been a lot steadier than I thought.
Still - any jump in production of things like cows, takes time .......
