Leave that for impressive movie sound effects! The experts in the tactical training classes I've taken all agreed that the noise of cycling the action could alert a home intruder to your whereabouts in a dark room, perhaps giving them a first-shot advantage. The only sound you want them to hear is "boom", followed by their raspy last breath.
Similar to you, I keep a 9mm S&W Shield at hand, and my Mossberg 590A1 12ga a few feet away from the bed, but with one already in the chamber. One guy I knew called me paranoid, but I'd rather be called that than, "The dearly departed".

My humanity requires warning an intruder that if he enters my bedroom, he will get shot. As my carry permit training dictates. Our bedroom is in the back of the house. If the breach is such that I'm aware of entry, then I'll call 911 and close the door. Since the room opens out on both sides, I want the intruder to know I'm in there.
Which side? They won't know - unless they do make the mistake of entry.
... to avoid the threat if at all possible, outside the home. I live in a state in which the castle doctrine applies, so there is no duty to retreat if the intruder is inside the home.
That said, I do have reinforced door jambs and an alarm system. I hope I never to have to deal with a life threatening situation in the first place, by doing what is possible to prevent it.

As do I, but I'd much rather win via deterrence instead of unnecessary deadly force. :)
Which is why I do everything I can to keep them out of my house in the first place.
