What works for some manufacturers doesn't work quite so well with others.Such as? Though a pretty nifty ride, we in the US were saddled with the name "Merkur XR4TI," in an attempt to make it sound classy. Rest of the world just loved the car as the "Ford Scorpio."

I can identify most (OK, 2-3) older Porsche models, but there are some newer ones (the one that to me looks just like a 911, but it's not), no chance.
If I liked Porsche I'm sure I'd remember, but being passive, no idea on anything other than a very select few.
Yep - the Cayman is one example, and a great car! Pretty much a Boxster with a hardtop.
Many people are familiar with the Cayenne - an excellent "SUV," but there was a time when the folks in Stuttgart used the motto: "At Porsche, we only build sportscars."
Another one is the Panamera.
Oh, then they have the Macan, which is like some kind of mini-SUV or crossover thing.
Yeah - they've kind of lost it & should have just stuck with the 9XX format... :)
Cayman? Looks 'sort of' like a 911 but much less expensive and still an excellent sports car.
An acquaintance has 2 Porsches, a very old restored 911 and a newer 911 or Cayman, unsure which. To my non-Porsche-fan eyes, they look the same.
