Anyone paying attention to Facebook's recent announcements of their new augmented reality?
I actually knew back in the 1980's that eventually movies would become all enveloping, fully immersive, virtual reality.
And now, 30 + years later, reality may finally be catching up with me.
Just proves that there really is little that's really new under the sun.
Severius! Supremus Invictus
I knew a guy here in Sydney who had a dream about being able to sell advertising space on virtual billboards in Nintendo and Playstation and online car racing games.
He saw the opportunity over 15 years ago for the game makers to build in the billboards and trackside media space along side of the race tracks and roads, and then charge Coca Cola, Pepsi, Ford, or whoever to put their ads on them.
And to be able to update and change the ads when new things came up or new advertisers were signed on.
Everybody thought he was mad, but he worked on it for 10 years and developed the plugins to do it.
He sold it to Microsoft for $70m a few years ago.
I follow this field.
I think they are very far behind some other companies such as magic leap and Microsoft.
You have to realize their motive, facebook isn't going to be around forever the scale it is, so they have to branch out. Their Oculus Rift VR was a flop.
