Blubber is what whales and seals use.. Polar bears too.
In humans a thick layer of fat is also only good in cold weather.
In hot weather the layer of fat really is a danger to the human body overheating... Particularly if doing any heavy exertion.
Back in the 1950's and even 1960's most people were not fat.
Skinny to average people can bear the heat far far better than fat people can.
So it is NOT TRUE anymore, that people can deal with the heat. Unless you happen to have a lean body mass.
And yes I also currently am a close cousin to the whale... if it matters..
I totally agree with what you're saying, but there were one hell of a lot of obese people in Brooklyn back in the 1950's and although they were negatively effected by the heat in the summer they were not dropping like flies. The vast majority of them went through their daily lives like everyone else, only they sweated a whole bunch more ;-)
I saw it, I was there! It's all in what you're willing to get used to.
I know a few people quite large that prefer heat. You re right larger folk generally don't like heat.
