Having ignored my BP like an idiot it was 169/100 on 3/31. I take an average of 3 readings in one sitting. One hour after 3g of L-citrulline it was 161/92. Now throwing out those two numbers and a couple of readings that looked like a pretty hefty coffee spike the average is now 142.5/86. This was a mixture of morning and evening readings. That's about a week on Citrulline. Not C. malate. 2g 3x a day. Not bad I'd say. On to Hawthorn. Just two of a million or so non pharmaceuticals with evidence that they lower blood pressure. If I can't get it normal I'd sure like to see it in the mid 30's at worst. No more coffee, at least for a while. T456

mine was something like 240/120 or something similar, since losing my health benefits when I quit my blood pressure meds are $70 a month instead of $10, not looking forward to that nor the $300 or so doctors visits every 3 months or so.
I remember my doc saying thank big pharma they'll help me live. I get very worked up especially when I go to the DOC or watch TV. coffee and tobacco don't help me one bit.
240/120 is in the arena of 'borrowed time'.
even down to 160/say....100 or so is pretty much waiting for a blowout.
I'd immediately quit any stimulants like coffee.
Walk daily. I've been walking now for a week (again for the 20th time) and each time I start out feeling awful but within a week start feeling somewhat better.
Even short walks like 2 miles continuous up a 300 foot hill or 3 miles + flat works wonders. Last time I was in even 'moderate' shape, I could walk 6 miles up/down the hills around here and even to the top of the local volcano. Yep, look it up. SoCal has a few volcanic remnants.
My wife who had a faily high A1C (long term blood glucose) has brought that down with better diet and exercise. To the poiint of a reduction in dose size of her meds.
Too much is never enough
Hope you are kidding about 240/120. If not that must be dealt with if you expect to live.

Speaking as a guy who made drugs for a living :) I'd say any compound with dose dependent physiological effects is a drug sort of by definition.
Otherwise, stuff like nicotine, caffeine, marijuana, opium and heroin are also non-drugs. All-natural; certified organic, etc.
all the best,
mrh
A brilliant comment. I changed it to pharmaceuticals to make the nit pickers happy.

Drug facts for L-citrulline at the link below.
I looked it up to see what the LD50 is.
That's the "lethal dose for 50%" killing of a population of test animals (sorry!). I.e., the dose at which half of a group of test animals was found, empirically, to succumb to the toxicity of the drug.
The LD50 of citrulline is 1.33 mol/kg = 230 g/kg (i.e., the toxicity is fairly low).
all the best,
mrh
mHardy, Can you please explain to me how you can get a rat to eat 230g/kg of anything? It would be hard even for a monkey. Couldn't be injected. That level is so high I can't figure out how it could even be tested. That's close to a quarter pound per pound of body weight if I have it correct. Maybe I don't understand the measurement? T456

I have no idea -- and I wouldn't want to think too hard about it :-(
It may be that they extrapolated from a dose where they saw some toxicity (lethality) with a large "n" of poor little rats.
all the best,
mrh
I've seen these or similar crazy numbers often when looking a science and many times the doses are so crazy high they don't make sense. I would actually like to know what's going on with it. T456

Not only is the toxicity "fairly" low but along with lowering blood pressure there is some evidence it can protect kidneys. I'd say that is the opposite of toxicity.

Can you get L-citrulline naturally from foods?
Yes, watermelon contains L-citrulline.
The recommended dose that I read and am using is not reasonably obtainable from watermelon.
