I pick up local roaster's coffees when I travel through or to a place, and often order from the net from various places. I recently finished off a bag of "Rainforest" Sumatran from a small outfit in Forks WA.
On tap today, I brewed up some Weiner Melange from Macy's Coffeehouse in Flagstaff AZ.
I'll drink most anything, but some coffee really is better. I like to make a game of it.
I'm always looking for recommendations, preferring dark roasts.
Anyone have a suggestion of where to explore/ obtain from?

My favorite bean. Local shops seem to mainly have Central and South American fair trade types. I need to order the Celebes in.
I take it with fresh Indus Organics Cardamom Seeds Powder and Cream... Very yummy...
Where they write like them damn audio reviewers:
"We developed this espresso for the launch of our Kiosk on Linden Street. This is probably our darkest espresso: lower-toned, minimal brightness, plenty of chocolate-with an engaging complexity as a straight shot. The shots are gorgeous: achingly heavy with voluptuous red-brown crema, and the silky, somewhat dangerous-looking viscosity of a power-steering stop-leak product once used on our (now departed) heroically battered 1983 Peugeot. In milk, it tastes like chocolate ovaltine, and holds its own from the daintiest 3 oz Macchiato to our towering 12 oz caffe latte. This is the most Brahmsian espresso we have. Brooding and autumnal, it is a coffee to mourn the passing of time."

I have been home roasting for years now, twice a week.
if you could time the roast properly.
.
is cold brew. It's very smooth and slips down you throat but don't let that fool you because it's loaded with caffeine. Blonde roast also high caffeine and smooth tasting.
make sure you get the authentic Jamacian Blue Mountain coffee, cost me about $120 a pound.
some clearly good stuff, the soil in Jamacia is world class, usually known for Cannabis crops, and great seafood, the Coffee from that country is fantastic!
They would have to change $5 a cup at Starbucks ( but they won't even bother).

Starbucks, I would never support that company. Not for me.
"Hot, black, and bitter..."
If that is true, most days I go with instant and black.
Variation: Hot, black, strong, and on the table first thing in the morning...

Roasted in my home town, we were raised on it. We made the switch to K-Kups ( a decision I had no vote in ) a cupla years ago and man, do I miss my drip Community Between Roast. On the attached link, I sorted by whole beans. Of course you can also buy ground.

Second that. I'm buying a couple bags of Dark Roast this morning. I love the aroma of the inside of the bag after I dump the coffee into a storage canister.
Love my paquet rouge. Have been addicted to their French Roast for years.

Have you checked out GoCoffeeGo.com?
I'm enjoying the Rocketeer Blend by Atomic Cafe. It's a medium roast. For a darker roast I would recommend Diesel Dark roast.
all the best,

I love good coffee and rarely get it. I think my last good cup was in Addis Abeba. How hard can this be? I am still burning through the crap I got for Christmas because everyone knows I want a good cup so they give me beans. I think I am down to the last bag, thank god!

i'd like to find a source of fresh UNROASTED beans and learn to do small-batch roasting in my oven.

These are 2 I go to regularly. Sweetmarias is a great source of info.
There's a lot of places out there for unroasted beans.

I'm a fan of Bluebottle coffee out of San Francisco. My daughter sends it to me.
My everyday stash is Trader Joes Dark Italian Roast(whole bean)
Real snobs don't buy ground either.
If you have a local TJ, they have a decent selection of branded, reasonably priced varieties.
For the guy who can also afford the expensive cables, there is this "special blend"

Here in Baltimore, that means Zeke's. It can be found at various spots around the Mid Atlantic region.

Last time I went it was too close to Starbucks. Try the French Hotel.

Maybe they brew it with more coffee.
Peet's and Starbucks, and others brew their coffee-to-go way too hot, can taste scorched.
I'm talking about brewing at home.
