Tried Streaming last year but ran through the very few movies and TV shows I liked in just a few months, so I switched to DVD.
DVD selection is far better but "2 Movies At Home" is an empty promise right up there with Trust Me. Days went by with NO movies at home so I cancelled that today.
I won't pay $20/month for Cable or Sling TV streaming so I can watch 18 minutes of commercials each hour so I guess it's back to just the 2 PBS channels which now have at least 5 minutes/hour of commercials thinly disguised as "thanks to our sponsors".

Your reasoning is sound if you don't.
I like their original programing as well as the stuff I miss on TV that I can binge watch on Netflix if and when the desire arises, like "Breaking Bad" and "Walking Dead" and "Battlestar Galactica" and "Lost", etc.
But also, my wife is Korean and they have a lot of Korean movies and "K-Dramas".
We also have Amazon Prime, which ends up paying for itself for us because we buy lots of stuff through Amazon, including CDs, LPs, books, electronics, food and even all our dog food, and they have good "TV" content.
But I watch more TV than I should! If I could shake the habit, I'd read more and be smarter! ;-)

That's where we get OUR movie fix.
People forget about libraries, and yet ours has a good music and movie collection.
And, they often sell CDs in the "used book sale" section for $1 each.

I'm with you 100%.
I can't stand TV (except football and a very few other sporting events),
as I find it insulting. I'm one hell of a lot smarter than the average
TV viewer, at whom most programs are aimed. Even football is becoming
hard to watch, esp. NFL, what with all the commercials (yes, I know the
commercials pay for the "free" content).
I don't watch many movies - the last one I saw in a theatre was Hell or
High Water, and it was very good. Of all movies ever made, there might
be 200 to 300 really worth watching.
I'd rather read.
I'm a bit the opposite.
I'd be more than happy to get a rebate/reduction for every sports related channel I could delete.
If I could get any REAL science, history, documentary, or education related channels? I'd pay a premium for those.
As to Netflix? I find more value in what they offer than in cable programming, and I am NOT able to get any "OTA" programming where I live.
I'm centered enough in the French Broad Valley that my coat hanger get's everything. My kids are 10 minutes farther West and 500 feet higher and get nothing, like you. Other than that, and all the fucking Floridians, there's nowhere I'd rather live.
Sadly? I'll probably be pulling up stakes & heading towards FL in another 5 years or so.
Hey, at least I'll get decent broadcast TV! :)
p.s.: I'd be envious & despise you for the relative amount of culture & nightlife in Asheville, vs Spruce Pine. :P

Ok, so you don't want to pay 80-100 for cable or satellite. I guess I can kind of understand that. But if you are too cheap to pay 10.00/month for netflix, you get no sympathy from me. Sure, they don't have the greatest selection of movies, but they have some kick ass original series, and most of the BBC shows are very good.
Hey, it's 33 cents a day. Seriously?

90% of the movies and TV shows on Netflix streaming are garbage. Netflix DVD has a far bigger catalogue but as above one can go days with no movies at home.
I tried Sling just to watch the College Bowl games on ESPN but there's nothing else there for me except Diners, Drive-ins but one can take just so much of the relentlessly 90s hipster.
I signed up for Prime today despite the free shipping not being the attraction it was when I was working and had extra income. Their movie catalogue looks thin and out of date. Hopefully I'll find a website that delves into what's really available. In 30 free days I can delight in the Top Gear sophomorons and see if the High Castle series is at least as good as the book. Then probably move on.
The Wire (best drama of all time? Maybe), The Americans, Justified (if anybuddy was ever born to play a role, Timothy Oliphant as Raylan Givens was), Downton Abbey, Curb Yer Enthusiasm, Veep, to name a few, are all excellent dramas and comedies. All done without the creativity constraints imposed by major networks. The dramas especially are good as, being multi season efforts, they take the time to develop the characters and stories instead of cramming it all into a 2 hour movie. The Wire, Downton Abbey, The Americans, Justified, and Orphan Black (especially its first 2 seasons) compete with the best one can see in the theater IMHO and you get them for years! ALtho I enjoyed The Man In The High Castle, I don't think its in the same league as the dramas I named.

That's partly because 95 percent of the movies ever made aren't worth watching even once.
I've watched "Easy Rider" seven times, "Casablanca" about ten. If I ever watch "2001" again, I'll fast forward through the "filler" sections, which will cut out about 25 minutes, thus helping to save the whales and the planet by reducing required bandwidth.

I disagree. It adds up. That is $120 a year for nonsense he is not using. Could get a good meal out of that.

I'm getting rid of Sling and live too far away and have mountains in the way to use an antenna. I enjoy Netflix and all the great standup comedy they have and a few of their original content shows.
There's enough OK movies. I love all the free content on my Roku which is zero a month after receiving their hardware free from Sling. I can see adding Amazon Prime when I run Netflix dry but will stay with Netflix for certain things I really like from them.

My Coat Hanger antenna picks up everything with little problem here in the Asheville area which is surrounded by mountains.
Carolina in flat except where you are, know it very very well. I live too low too far away. Im ham nad know antenna theory and RF propagation very well also. Think try to receive Knoxville which you can't.In the diagram there are [lenty of stations I can get but they are local bottom feeders and PBS (which I like) but no major etworks therefore no sports. They are in DC and too weak even with my listed antenna height of 100 feet.
Now look at how much better Asheville is with most of the strong local signals from major networks. Got it?

Yeah, even the "probable" stations shown are NOT going to have signal strength worth watching, no matter how big your antenna is.
Have you looked at some android devices such as Minix, which you can use to download the KODI apps for streaming movies without any commercials. As of now I have been watching new movies that were released in 2016 and 2017 for free and of course with no commercials. Movies such as LALA Land, Fences, Moonlight, Manchester by the sea, Arrival, Hell or high water, The Magnificent 7, Superman vs. Batman, Hidden figures, Lion, Hacksaw ridge just to name a few. The only caveat is some of the movies are in 720P resolutions and it only come in 2 channel audio.Tonight I'll be watching the John Wick chapter two movie.

incredible WWII espionage/romance film starring Brad Pitt. Well made and not sappy!
Also saw the first part of 'the wall' with Matt Damon but had to leave before I got pass the opening credits.
recently were the Fences with Denzel Washington, Hidden Figures with Octavia Spencer and Manchester by the sea with Casey Affleck. The Lala Land was very good, but in my opinion the Fences movie was better. But I think the Lala Land will win the best picture because of its upbeat musical theme and not as melodramatic and sombre mood as the other three movies.
The most surprising movie to me was the Midnight Special. It's one of the few movies that show that the ending part is just as important as the whole body of the movie.
