Bullethead!
New owners with new promises: The protracted wait may eventually be over. I read somewhere else the retail price will be $4500.00. Given that, I seriously doubt the quality level will be to the high standard of the Ref 3.5 it replaces.

I'll only get them as I think about it if they have a higher sensitivity. Thank you for the info.
Looks like ceramic woofer, I like the stand/spikes too.
I'll have to see, one thing is if it is single voice coil for woofer and 89db or higher sensitivity I'll buy it immediately.
By the way the reason the 3.5s were so much was because of a fabrication error with the stands at the factory, that cost had to be included in the Refs, I paid $4k, originally they were $6k, I picked up a pair as they were being discontinued. $4,500 isn't bad but it would have to be an evolution. We'll see, I appreciate it.
Here is a more comprehensive view of my system environment.
I also believe you helped me when I was searching for a new speaker, I believe you might have been one of the people to recommend the Ref 3.5that's why I like this message board, help l get from people like you when it comes time to pull the trigger.
You have a great setup, enjoy.
here's my system. as you can see I have the covers on them. they do look like burqas LOL!

The dual voice coil woofer is no longer available per #3314, the 14th post down, in the forum link. Unless they find another supplier you may get your single coil woofer at a higher efficiency rating.
I am aware the most expensive part to fabricate was that aluminum stalk. There were flaws in the first production run. Gallo had to absorb the costs and the retail was originally $6k as a result.
I bought my pair new in June 2010 when the model was first introduced. I found a generous dealer locally who charged me only $3600.00. It was a bargain I could not refuse.
I have no idea what I would ever get to replace these without spending an excessive amount of money. The majority of loudspeakers are the same theme regardless of cost. They all have a port or tube in a rectangular box, a dome tweeter, metal or fabric, maybe a fragile ribbon tweeter and a midrange driver much too large for the frequencies it is intended to reproduce, six inches or more. Nothing out there comes close to that CDT unit for dispersion, clarity, range and unlimited power handling.
I am quite happy keeping the Ref 3.5's. I would only wish for perhaps a 1/2 octave more bass. I thought they might incorporate twin woofers side by side or one above the other in a new larger model. It does not look like that will happen.
I had Avalon Eidolons for five years I bought new and I do not feel I am missing much with the Ref 3.5's.
