That was one of the designs we brought over from Australia to try and save Pontiac. We are always 3 to 4 years behind you guys in platform and body updates.Look at the headlights in your 2006 model Holden.. We didn't get those until 2010. Our regulations here are horrendous. It had to be approved for the US market.

I doubt GM could have built them to the design.

Wasn't there a race series in Australia that ran nothing but Holden's.
(was it Australian super cars?)
Oh, I looked it up (Isn't the web a wonderful thing) & its v8 supercars.
Kind of like our (U.S.) mid 60's to mid 70's or so, trans-am series based on factory 4 seat sedans, or, more known as "pony cars" built by GM, Ford, Chrysler & AMC.
See they have new rules for 17 to allow turbo 6 & 4 cylinder engines. That's a good thing.
It will be a wonderful thing when the EPA no longer rules over the automotive industry.:)

Would you welcome a return to the late '60s or early '70s air quality? Today's cars are available with more power than ever, and very low in emissions.
Early emissions controls were bad, but they were a work in progress and improved to the point where removing anything would be pointless without extensive modifications and significant losses in drivability.
The EPA is finally getting serious with motorcycles and outboard motors, and it's about time.

We saw a few out on the streets shortly after introduction by Pontiac and in the immediate years afterward. I haven't seen one in the wild around here lately. But they are out there.
Pontiac went belly-up as part of the GM restructuring post '08 recession. Without a doubt, the '06 GTO will become collectible if not already. Prices depend on demand, as they always seem to. Not sure what that demand is right now, but owning one would be bankable if you didn't need to drive it and wear it out. I'd buy one to store it away in a nice heated garage for the next twenty years. That and a few other interesting cars.... if only.

I was going to chime in about Australia being the last holdout of the American Style Supercar.
But you beat me to it.
My poor brother was miffed when I told him the GTO was a 'rebadge' of an Australian GM car.
Too much is never enough
