who is thinking about bailing to Uruguay if, well, you know -- there comes a reason to bail out of the US.
I guess it is supposed to be pretty nice, and also stable governmentally and with a fair climate.
What more could one ask?
all the best,

Move to the right part of the country and you might even have a few X-Nazis or their children to hava as neighbors.
Me? I'm all-in for Costa Rica.
Too much is never enough
Gonna be like Florida but further south in a few years.
We already know some folks who've bailed to Costa Rica.
all the best,

About the X Nazis, the same can be said for the good old USA. Quite a few imported after the war. T456
"Freedom is irrelevant. Self-determination is irrelevant. You must comply." The Borg
Yes, we got all, or Most of the good Rocket Scientists and several others.
However, the Leadership ended up on the lamb in South America. Much evidence exists for this including several Nazis taken well after the war.
Too much is never enough
If it weren't for the German scientists we imported, who knows when we'd have ever figured out rockets and audio tape.
:)
USA brought over 1000+ German Scientists and Techs VIA Operation Paperclip.
Russians 'grabbed' what they could.
I don't think the MIG-15 / MIG-17 design was a clean sheet based on what I see of WWII German proposals for new jet aircraft. Submarines, too.
Too much is never enough
Cars that last more than a few years.
This is just my OPINION, but auto design is a known science.
What American companies are up against are Costs. They'd bankrupt a supplier to save .03$ per part. Of whatever is being supplied to them.
By known? I mean you can design the geometry of suspecnsion fo good handling and smooth ride. Compromises are made one way or the other. Sound deadening and isolation. Paint and finish process. Tires. Shocks. Batteries and Electrical. Interior and Creature Comforts.
So, why do American cars have a reputation for Marginal Quality? Partly design and the compromises. Partly less expensive materials in Some cases. and finally? Procedures for manufacture and the Method of assembly.
I don't know about now or current management, but in years past, the way to the head of GM was thru the Finacial group, not engineering. Bean Counters nearly doomed the company.
The US built Camry is pretty much but NOT exactly the same as the Japanese built version. But the US built seems pretty darn good. But it is Spec'd by Toyota and built 'The Toyota Way'.
Nobody beefs about the US built Accord, either.
And please don't forget that both BMW and Mercedes and probably Audio (remember the 5000?) have good and bad years.
I have found my Mazda to be quick (enough), quiet on the road, real good handling, excellent economy and even buying the bottom of the line had a reasonable feature set ('content'). I wonder what I could have got from Chevy for the Same coin?
Too much is never enough
I've heard stories from Big Three engineers who quit their jobs because they refused to be associated with making crappy components that were designed to fail.
So, my statement about needing German scientists was in jest.
I don't know WHY but some persons have good luck with American cars while others, like myself have poor luck.
My Ford Ranger? Heater core. Antiock brake valve! Rear main leak dealer induced. Gas leak, also dealer induced. I can't remember if this one got a head gasket, but I know it needed shocks at about 50k miles which I put off for a while
Ford Taurus? Used 1qt every 1000 miles. called 'normal'. Huge stink in the cabin when starting up. I fixed after Ford screwed with it 3 or 4 times. How about a cabin Air Filter?
Needed a door light switch when I sold it. Tail Lamps were a NIGHTMARE to replace.
Ford F-150. Head gasket. Radiator. Rattles when delivered. Incomplete repairs. I had at least one major fix, 'fixed' sitting in the drive at the dealership.
Honda Accord from ''83 or so? Clutch under recall / warranty. Fuel pump (about 25$ part. I replaced) and a few othe rminor things. Sold @206,000 miles STILL not having used a quart of oil in Total for all the years I owned it.
Neighbor swears by his Chevy's. Even a Cruz which has a very high rate of people wanting RID of them in only one year ownership.
Other neighbor LOVED his big American Pickups. Chevy and Ford.
Too much is never enough
and he said that if he didn't have to take care of his mom here in the states that he would move immediately.
