Hi Kevin
A quick question, could a decoupled dropping resistor be used before (or
after) a plate choke to lower the B+? I'm sure it would work but will it effect
the performance of the plate choke in any way?
Cal
Follow Ups:
You can use a resistor to drop voltage, but you have to use a sizable bypass capacitor between the dropping resistor and the power supply end of the choke, otherwise the resistor is part of the audio signal load.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I thought. Buy the way, any rule
of thumb formulas to determine the size of the cap? Also, I know everything is in the audio signal path but how much will this cap influence the overall sound of the amp. Another words, would I be better off
with just a plate load resistor?Cal

C=1/(2*pi*R*F), where R is the dropping resistor and F is the frequency at which the RC filter will begin to be less effective
You get to choose that frequency. I usually target no more than 5-10Hz.
