I bought two LL1688 70mA OPT from Kevin's clearance sale recently. I thought I would use them for my new 211 tube power amp project in 2015. However, I would like to try them out with my 300B mono's which is having Plitron OPT.
I had the LL1688 wired for 5.5K to 8 ohm and installed it in my 300B amp. It has very powerful, dynamic and thunderous bass. The frequency response is excellent at low end and flat good up to 20 kHz. I listened to it for 2 days and felt that the sound was a bit too tight because of the high damping. I then rewired the secondary so that it lowers the primary impedance from 5.5 to 2.75K. Wowwh.... it gives more airy sound.
My conclusion is that bigger the iron, more the energy it will pass to the speaker. I think I am so lucky have the opportunity trying this new monster big LL1688 OPT.
Thanks Kevin.

I am just wondering what is the list price for LL1688 and LL1688AM.
Johnny
There is no LL1688AM. The price of an LL1688 is $380 each. They are available by special order with whatever gap you need. The LL1693 is another big transformer that works well with the SE 300B amp. It's the same price. There is also no AM version.
