This is a pianist with a unique style and perfect timing, all of which added up to one of the most swinging pianists in the history of jazz.
It's always a pleasure to put on one of his tracks and enjoy the swing. Like this album Live at the Left Bank. Jimmy Cobb was his perfect drummer - another of the swingingest in jazz drumming history.
Credit:
Bass - Cecil McBee
Drums - Jimmy Cobb
Piano - Wynton Kelly
Tenor Saxophone - Hank Mobley
Follow Ups:
Virtually everything that came out of that Left Bank Jazz Society was great!
Wynton feeds alternate blues changes to Hank Mobley, wonderful.
Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb are great, and Miles is HOT!
Love that album.
I have it. I also bought a few Wynton Kelly records last fall!
It is indeed a wonderful album.
My first band in University had some excellent musicians in it, including drummer Spike Wells. He was a big fan of this album and the rhythm section, and always pointed me to No Blues as an example of how a rhythm section could swing with just a bass and a ride cymbal behind Miles just after the initial theme. He was right! Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb were amazing.
