Dave started a rehearsal band that I played in for around 15 years. I met a helluva lot of NYC jazz musicians via that band including guys like Lee Konitz, Joe Farrell, Sal Nistico, Jimmy Maxwell, Tom Harrell, Jimmy Madison, Mike Abene and many others. He is probably the best transcriber of Duke's music around and is a font of info about Duke.I preferred to go in a more "modern" musical direction but Dave has stayed into earlier styles, obviously including Duke-ish writing. He has a number of recordings of his current band (Sultans of Swing) available and all the players are excellent.
