Follow Ups:
Makes me think of walking into hi-fi shops in the late 70s and/or early 80s to audition speakers. Overly suave sales person: What kind of music do you listen to?" Me: "Jazz." Out comes the Jazz at the Pawnshop.
No thanks. I passed then; I'll pass now.

Though really none of it had much to do with the music.
Then I heard it and knew why.
I WAS very impressed with the recording quality the one time I listened to one side.

I love you guys. I find your opinions enlightening.
I always thought JATP was kind of interesting but didn't really "reach" me for whatever reason. What I liked most about it was the venue and the small club feel and the tingling glasses in the background. It gives it an intimate feel.
Any recommendations for similar small club recordings would be appreciated... jazz sophisticate approved of course! By the way, I absolutely love Jessica Williams "Live at Yoshi's" series.
Stompen is a small club located in old Town Stockholm. The street level room that record set was recorded in, among other recording sessions, has remained the same ever since. There is another room downstairs where another band can play. There is often two gigs going on at the same time. I went there 3 or 4 times over the years. Loved a blues band there called The Soulmates. Imagine a 6'4" blue eyed blonde haired white white guy speaking Swedish on stage between songs. Then the music starts and the guy turns into James Brown. They rocked.
Gotta love Yoshi's. A nice sushi dinner with martinis, then good seats during the gig. Always eat there first for best choices of music seats.
It just seems so... wrong:

I originally thought JATP had to be overrated like some Sheffield Lab or Chesky recordings and then read this review. I checked it out after just subscribing to Qobuz and appreciated the streaming clarity (not too fond of their layout and as well as some other bugs) granted some of the cuts on the 30th Anniversary edition are also not my cup of tea..in any case, recordings are like vegetables: some people are just not going to like them
Just buy the Bill Evans Vanguard dates and be done with it
A very nice counter selection- GEO.

The fusion of great music and engineering.

A Test Disc in any format.
I find it unlistenable

2 minutes and I was done..... maybe less...
Audio demo tracks need to be listened to again and again to compare equipment. Needs recordings where the music is timeless.
