Sure, shitty year so it wouldn't take a lot to make any aspect of it better.
Monk Palo Alto though rises it up considerably.
Standard set of the perennial goodies, the band is obviously feeling good
and the sound is MUCH better than I expected. Damn good in fact.
I bought the CD. Fine packaging, great notes and a helluva story in how this came about.
A new Monk live recording is cause for celebration and one of this caliber
at this time is really nothing short of a Blessing.

Follow Ups:
I initially was a disappointed by the note that this was recorded by the school custodian. Then I thought back on my own Jr High School days and realized that, ironically, it was the custodian that set me on my course of electronics as a profession and audio as an avocation.
My school had after school elective programs and one was an introduction to electronics. I was drawn to this program for some reason and it was taught by the custodian. He was a ham radio operator and wanted to share his enthusiasm for radio and electronics with the students.
In those days, e.g. the 1950s, the custodian was a well paid position and he was a regular member of the school's administration. He taught us about basic AC and DC circuit theory and, as part of the curriculum, we each built a five tube superheterodyne radio from a kit. We also studied for the FCC requirements for ham radio and I attempted to learn Morse Code.
OK, the point of all this is that the custodian of an affluent CA high school could very well have been a well paid employee with a strong interest in Hi Fi with a good quality reel to reel recorder and decent microphones. It would also probably have been just two microphones recorded on to two channel tape with no mixing or signal processing of any kind. So, it is not inconceivable that the results are very listenable today.
Pleasantly surprised, down loaded it to my portable music player right away. Did you see the reproduction of the flyer in the middle pocket?

Although I bought the LP, I couldn't agree more.
1 LP? Artwork?
dh
It's a single LP and the package includes a copy of the program, copy of the poster and a booklet with essays by Monk's biographer, Robin D G Kelley and the high school age promoter, Danny Scher.
Sound quality is generally excellent (The first track, a solo piano performance on Side 2 sounds a bit grungy.), especially since the engineer was a custodian! Surfaces on my copy are clean as can be. The musicians are all really into it.
Highly recommended
I think there have been many excellent jazz releases in 2020, new found vintage, releases, and new music by current artists. It's a very good thing to have these given there hasn't been live, in person jazz since late March. All these "live-streams" free and for money, not always actually live, just don't do for me. Well, a few do, but not many. As for the new releases, I couldn't begin to pick a favorite. However, the Ella Live in Berlin, of which I just got a promo down load yesterday is most excellent.
As for most other aspects of 2020, they really suck big time, to use a technical term.
Stay safe. Ciao

Agreed Cpwill - another banner year for Jazz releases.
I think the "find" of 2020 is Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Just Coolin'. That one hits all the buttons for me.
That said, I was pleasantly surprised with Palo Alto. Considering everything, it is pretty good sound and the band with it.
I concur- SamA
