Hi Andy,
Since you like the the version on Train's Ballad album you may like what I linked.
That album is Karrin Allyson's tribute to Coltrane's Album of the same name. Same tunes and in the same order.
Phil
Follow Ups:
John Patitucci on bass is playing too many notes, unfortunately. The pianist is just as bad. Much more sensitive playing for Stacey Kent. The producer should have said something at the session.
But the vocals are superb.
Hi Andy,
I don't think they were stepping on her part much although the instrumental part may be a bit busy. There are other parts of the album which did bug me. The tenor which she had had was a smooth jazzy type which I found particularly annoying on an album which is kind of a tribute to Coltrane.
Give her another chance. I linked the tune which instantly made me a fan of hers a couple of decades ago. I had the radio on at work and that came on. I was stunned! Hadn't heard of her before and I was an instant fan.
I think she now owns the tune. Sorry Chet Baker.
Phil
