I've been on a bit of a Poncho Sanchez Jag latly.
Along with a Cuban Cigar a friend gave me, me and the wifey got into the Mohitos and had a Cuban night last Saturday. The artists of choice you ask?
Poncho Sanchez!
We loved "Do It" so much we listened to it twice.
So... How about some like kind recommendations whether Poncho or not.
Follow Ups:
I'm not actually much of a PS fan, a little too jazzy and popish for my tastes.
That said and in a similar bag, check out later Tito Puente, Vince Guaraldi, Eddie Palmieri
(and his big bro Charlie), Ray Barretto, Willie Bobo, Willie Colon and the salsa scene out of NYC post 1960.
Much of the Fania label stuff will knock your socks off.
Also check out the Concord/Picante label which PS recorded for.
The Boogaloo Assassins are great if still active.
For Cubano music check out Arsenio Rodriguez (The "Duke Ellington" of Cuba), Cachao,
and all the various Buena Vista Social Club personal (and you can trace all of them like a
family tree to other brilliant Cuban musicians).

Not very familiar with more contemporary Cuban music (like the past 40 years), but there
are a GREAT many styles and forms, from proper Danzas to "folk" songs of son to the
inventions of Irakere.
It completely blows my mind how so much and so varied a selection of styles of
music have come from Cuba.
AA members Chazro and The Killer Piglet have VAST knowledge of the genres.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
Thanks... Excellent post!
That should keep me busy for a while.
