"I didn't want to do it, I didn't want..."
At Gunpoint!
Yes, it's 3000 miles away, but I'm certain he has Radar Guided Rubber Bullets.
Rather than risk him coming here ( Don't make me come over there...)
I will be posting a detailed review of 2 CD Sets of Benny Goodman's Carnegie Hall Concert.
Re-Master Wars, as it were!
I know everyone here will be thrilled.
Except maybe a certain Clarinet-O-Phobe who lurks, errr, Moderates here...
Tho it IS a sensible attitude.
Probably will be Deleted before I even finish typing it.
Read the Ending First!
Will take a day or 2 to collect my thoughts.
I wonder where I had them last?

What's the holdup? Thoughts lost again?

Listening and Thinking about it.
There's a lot of info available about the Concert and the Recordings.
I want to do an informative review, not just state my preferences.
But it's been too long, thanks for the Prod!
Will probably be revisiting with your article.

Like there are three 2 cd sets available:
The one Sony put out in 1999, which uses the original laquers that
BG owned and turned over to Columbia in 1950;
A version put out by Avid (UK);
A version put out by Jasmine (UK);
And a version put out by some Spanish outfit.
I do not see how the non-Sony versions can improve on what Sony did. At
most, improvements will be marginal.
And I will bet a non-trivial sum of money that Avid, Jasmine, et. al.
used the Sony version for their own "master".
My comments do not apply to LP versions, or versions using LPs as a
prime source.

There is interesting info in both the Sony and Jasmine Liner Notes that I will mention.
Jasmine actually spent over a year on their's, and offers a Major Diss to Phil Schaff, who was in on the Sony Re-Master,
and a regular at WKCR FM/Columbia U. Radio Station.
It's all interesting, and soon I'll be ready to post, including Quotes from the Liner Notes and my impressions.
One interesting tidbit-
Even though the Musicians didn't know it was being recorded,
everyone on the Concert got Paid the applicable Union Scale when it was released!
Well, I am surprised. I'll be very interested to read what Jasmine has
to say and to find out about their remastering process.
Thank you for doing this.

I have to try that. Maybe bring back my high register, lost in the Sixties. My sixties.
The Tango: A kind of Naval Engagement but without the Seamen
I'm trying not to post anymore in Central.
I'm sorry if I rained on your Parade, or mis-understood your post there.
Or maybe I didn't.
But it would be better for me to get involved there, yet I seem to keep doing so.
I'm hooked, got to Kick!
Not to worry, some parades just need to be rained on.
