Not gonna hit live levels of course, but I'd imagine that it could be enjoyable for spinning records til 3 am without pissing off the neighbors too much. I got plenty of enjoyment playing my old pseudo backhorn TLs with 12w/ch late into the night.Real rock drums played hard are really loud. Maybe with about 4 karlsons and lots of watts you could come with a fair facsimile. I have real ones in my 'living room', so I don't worry about it.
Follow Ups:
hey GB - once had A-concepts setup w. isobarik woofs - was playing some stuff and thought - "those snares sound pretty real for once - now getting somewhere" - no wonder - drumkit in room had them tite and rattling....have you played punchy recordings with your two Karlson packed side by side? - bet setup like that would work for reggae-freek - not sure if "image" smears too badly - at least not at distance - 2K15/side could probably do some drum work
seems like Preimier had some good metal snare drums - rim-shots made that crack which causes eyes to blink shut - don't think have ever heard a speaker replicate a snare even in modest size room
gonna have to go TC's route for late at night - but then again a Karlson 12 has about right built-in eq only problem is highs shooting overhead when layin' on couch.

Oh, the old snare rattling in the room trick. I know that well. Fortunately, the snare lever on my drum is broken and held with a rubber band that the cat steals.Never had a premier, but I've heard some that sound good, despite the snob factor against them. I have an old 60's british stewart kit. I used to have an old slingerland snare that was my favorite. Can't say I really like metal snares. I'm the worlds suckiest drummer, so it doesn't matter anyway.
Never tried to stack the K15's. It might be cool.

My old mid efficiency 3 ways powered by Eico ST70 did a pretty good rendition in my modest sized back room. Fooled my drummer friend from the next room. They had big-ish but very light conical paper cones instead of horns, and horn/dome tweeters.
Yep, that built in karlson loudness curve works good for low level late nite listening. I have mine tuned to pretty flat with a bit of extra damping and optimized for medium loud. I think an 811/80x plus dual 414's in a vented box is right up there for late night too.
hey GB - if roof hasn't leaked on shack (-fraid to look) then have/had minty ST70 in closet - used that type back in 65 - paid TV guy $40 - wonderful amp + way kool in looks dept. - nice w.Johnny Rivers and "Secret Agent Man" on Bruce's old sys-100never had pleasure of hearing/seeing 414's - bet they're sweet.
will black liquid shoe-polish hide beer/whatever-stains that happen to pro-cones? (think Skip and DJK suggested leather dye) - am chicken to hit 'em with dammar - scared bigtime will sound lika plastic -
421's cook in K15 topped with BR90 size or 511 - just haffa point horn down a bit - 908 was good with ring-radiator back at thoat plate and elevated - Karlson kook fo lotsa stuff - wanna try to make new K-design?

I like my unhip PP UL Eico. I think it looks sorta ugly and cool at the same time. Haven't really ever done anything to it except fix the miswired loudness control.Shoe/leather dye is just aniline black and should work, but I'd be a little scared only because it might have some sort of moisturizer or something in there that could hurt the paper. I have powdered aniline black around somewhere that dissolves in alchohol. I usually put in a little shellac as a binder to keep it from rubbing off.
I dunno what I want to do for my next project. I do need something mid sized for my vinyl. Been on a CD diet for a year and got indigestion.
