If you're big into imaging, you might also check out a modern horn system like edgar for instance, or even look at something like the ESG1/3 ribbon tweeters in a high efficiency direct radiating 3 way set up. I have some ESG3's and they image very well. The dynamics aren't quite as lifelike as horns though, IMO, but you may like them.

Well, I have some early '74s with vertically mounted horns and they image pretty well, although I do listen in the nearfield in a smallish bedroom. I need to bring them and the Wrights out into the big room to put them through their paces.
During the back half of '74, they switched to mounting them horizontially, so maybe this was the cause for what you heard from others?
