Gentlemen:While reading AA.com's archives, I learned that Jack Galante was replacing the Altec 604s in his Buckinghams with PAS coaxials. PAS? Never heard of them! However, one reviewer praised the new Buckinghams. He said that they were smoother than the 604s. Hmmm! That sparked my interest in PAS. So last year, I searched the net for PAS and found nothing. Today, however, I did find the PAS link, and I'm posting it below. PAS speakers could be an option for DIYers interested in high efficiency speakers and SET amps. I mean, the PAS coaxials look very, very similar to the Altec 604s (no mention of alnico, though). And I imagine that they are close to 100dB. I say imagine because I could not read the PDF specification files because my PC is acting up--something's wrong.
Here's what to do at www.pas-toc.com:
--Go to products.
--Then go to loudspeakers components at the bottom of the page.
--On this new page, the list of coaxials will be on your right.Tom Brennan:
You mention Radian Audio speakers quite a bit. However, these PAS coaxials really follow the Altec 604 style much closer than Radian. It could be a good link for your horn-site.!
My regards to all!

Any idea?

Here's a link for Plus One Engineering. This outfit
is making the old Emilar products; compression
drivers, horns (including the famous 800hz "bowtie")
and a line of horn-woofer coaxes, interesting
looking stuff. JBLPro makes 12" and 15" horn co-axes
too. Let's see, we have Tannoy, Radian, Beyma, JBL,
PAS, and Emilar making these things now, plus the
old Altecs, Stephenses and Jensens. Miss any?
Some pro audio folks say B & C makes excellent speakers. Co-axials, woofers, compression drivers and full range, all high efficient.
Galante had PAS make the drivers when Altec stoped making the 604s. I haven't heard them, but they have a slightly flatter impedence curve. they are also a little cheaper.

If you get some info post it on here. I can't get a download on their PDF. Nothing wrong here, I downloaded McIntosh PDFs fine.
Gentlemen:I have a gut feeling that the coaxials that Jack Galante uses in his Buckinghams are a pair of PAS CXL-2580C. Why? The description gives you a hint: "for use when the greatest clarity and power are required." Response down to 35 Hz (with a 6 lb magnet) is also suggestive of a connection. Like I say, it's just a gut feeling. I could be wrong! However, I do like the resemblance between the Altec 604s and the PAS coaxials.
In an e-mail (info@pas-toc.com), I did ask them which PAS coaxial is used in the Buckinghams. Let's see what they say. I also sent them a post-card asking for a brochure and a price list. If you want to do the same, here's the address:
