i have not heard them but Pi's look cool. i was kind of curious about modernizing the 846b's along those lines. (my woofer is currently an old jbl 2225h.. will try updating that down the road.)
i just picked up an old Hsu vtf-3 mk3. awesome pairing!! watching Rogue One with this combo on the projector was just radical!!
Follow Ups:
I went through, as I mentioned elsewhere, an Altec 802/806/902 phase with 811s, both circumcised and not and various other horns types. Even built a fancy Model 19 homage.
Tried to make it musical with Martinelli Horns, those now unobtainable 12" (2012?) JBLs with and without treble help from Ribbons and domes that I called the Bat Speaker.
In the end, I built 4 Pis which now reside on sand boxes. The DE-250 drivers with Wayne's own Eminence-style but catenary H290C horn and updated crossover cured my wanderings forever.
BTW, your 2225s will work just fine if you choose 4Pi.
There's no virtue in being old,
it just takes a long time
In the last photo the tops appear to be slanted, is this real or some sort of artifact of wide angle lens?
They do appear slanted, don't they. Artifact.
The amps really are slanted, though.
