You REALLY should be talking to Don Davis, "Dr. Field Coil" before proceeding any further. I think he will steer you to Ubangies, NOT Shearer bins, and NOT the woofers you are chasing. He is experienced more than anyone I know personally on such vintage RCA bass systems. Look him up, save yourself some heart ache. Send him this post from me.

Hi Jeff,
Do you have current info on Don? To me , he's across the parking lot at te studioHe says that he has no info on you anymore. I am still listening to a L-R mockup of Record One. Marantz 8b is on the bench for recapping.

Not aiming for the ultimate in sound quality I love collecting restoring etc and listening to vintage but for audiophile use I have many other horns. The reason for the Shearer is its what was under this horn to begin with.
Jeff,
The RCA MI 9448 is the compression driver used with both the Ubangi and the Olson bin, usually in pairs on a 'Y' throat. They really do sound great.
Thanks, I have never have "kept up with" the RCA MI numbers and what was what, so your post was helpful.
