I'd like to play a few DXD files shared by a friend, but I'm stumped. Neither my Marantz HD-DAC1 nor Topping D50s (my available DACs) will play these files. What DACs (or perhaps foobar extension) will play DXD files?
Follow Ups:
I use a less expensive Topping E30 DAC connected via USB to a Raspberry Pi running Volumio, which acts as a DLNA receiver. I send the music from my Mac running Audirvana using DLNA over the wifi. It just works. I didn't have to do anything beyond the normal setup. I was surprised that it did, and also DSD 512 works on a good day. DSD256 mostly works but sometimes stutters, and DSD128 always works. But DxD always just works, what little I have.
As DSD is not an editable format, Pyramix invented DXD. Convert DSD to DXD, do your edits and convert back to DSD.
DXD is linear PCM with 24 bit / 352.8 kHz.
Most of the time the SPDIF receiver on the DAC is limited to 192 kHz.
Modern DAC's support up to 384 over USB or even higher.
The Well Tempered Computer
FiiO players will handle DXD, even the $500 model. It will play all formats up through DSD256 directly from a flash drive -- no computer required.
You can play it via your Topping DAC via USB and with the proper ASIO driver. The Marantz does not handle such high resolutions.
Thanks, Kal.

. . . I play DXD files (in MCh) using HQ Player SW (having already switched the audio output on my Mac Mini from Core Audio to ASIO - if you're on a Windows device, I think that ASIO may be built in? I had to load the ASIO driver as an add-on), with the sound exiting via USB to an exaSound e38 DAC. From the DAC, the signal travels to the preamp/processor for some channels via regular analog interconnect cables, or directly to the various amps for other channels, also via regular analog interconnect cables. Voila! DXD or DSD256 in MCh! The connectivity would of course be simpler in 2Ch.
Chris: My Windows laptop does have have an ASIO driver for my Topping DAC, so I will give that a try (Kal pointed me to this option as well). These are 2-channel DXD files, since my friend doesn't do Mch music.
