You must have bought one of the factory refurbished for a good price.
If you need/like the balanced output stage this is a good deal.
If you have lots of sacd's then you should be happy.
FWIW, I have the Ruby player and like it a whole lot.
Follow Ups:
I just got ups tracking number. Should arrive this Friday.I do prefer balanced output.
I have no experience with Marantz cd players.
Previously had Sony 5400 cd/sacd players which I liked very much.
Called Music Direct and the unit was a return, not refurbished unit.
They said it was in perfect shape.
I would have liked champagne color, but now is special order, and full price.

Which filter setting did you find sounds best?
I now have the Cardas golden cross rca cables connected to the SA-10 and like it very much.
I've heard the SA-10 in a friend's system, and it sounded great. I have owned several other relatively inexpensive Marantz players over the years, and they all punched above their price category.
BTW, I bought a Marantz HD-DAC1 returned unit from MusicDirect a few years ago. There was a defect in playing certain hi-res files. MusicDirect replaced the unit with another one quickly--no hassle or fuss of any kind.
You'll like it. The Marantz house sound tends to be very smooth but very detailed, and somewhat laid back. Pay attention to the 3 filter settings. In
my system they made a noticeable difference in the sound, especially the noise shaping-that made a HUGE difference. It also helps to turn off any circuits not being used. I turned off those damn lights because I really don't like them.
Enjoy.

The manual says if you use the balanced output the phase should be changed to invertedthe manual is wrong!
Do not switch to inverted
Updated this post after listening to both phases.

Yes, i changed the phase. You can compare it to the RCA connections just out of curiosity. There are quite a few settings, as I said before, they make a difference.
Enjoy,
Jack
This player is the best and most advanced that I have read about, or could afford. It will take some time to explore all the features.
I also will compare to my top line VPI turntable from 1999.
Very, very, good so far.

How are you guys changing XLR pinout on your units? This thread prompted me to check XLR pin layout on my Marantz AV8005. Sure enough it's using European layout which I'm feeding to my NA amps! Manual says I must physically swap pins for compatability. That's a non starter with my Cardas and AW cables unless I send them back to the manufacturer. It will cost me pretty penny and kill the resale value.
Also, congrats on owning an amazing SACD player! You've made the right choice!
Thanks for the tip Kal!
It's too bad there are no mid-level multi-channel SACD players being made anymore. My trusty Sony XA9000 is starting to have problems playing SACDs. I can only hope that I can find a good repair shop that can bring it back to 100%.

Keep me posted on the Repair process of XA9000.
Not physically. Push of a button changes it in the menu.

Edit: FWIW, I eventually decided I prefer the RCA connections.

A lot of balanced (XLR) connections do not meet the US pro circuit standard as Ralph of Atmosphere repeatedly says.I have also found certain RCA cables (Cardas Golden cross) sound best to me.
I will have to try my old Cardas Golden cross cables with this cd player.

What did you prefer about RCA? Also, someone made a comment that Marantz manual is incorrect and their default XLR pinout already adheres to common standard used in Europe and USA with Pin 1: ground, Pin 2:+, Pin 3:- . So no reversing should be required. SA10 might be different but it's worth checking.

Slightly narrower but slightly deeper soundstage. Not a huge difference. Yes, I tried polarity both ways with both connections. :-)

Nice points- Jack G.
I can promise you that you will not be disappointed. The black will match your stuff much better than the Marantz Gold. Plug that bad boy in, and enjoy the savings, and the last disc spinner you'll ever have. Do the online thing when you get to it. I am old, have thousands of discs, and have yet to get to it myself.
